We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Languages Teacher to join our team and lead our German Department from January. This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-qualified Teacher to work with some of the highest calibre students in the country in one of our most successful subject areas.

The ability to teach German to A'level is essential, with the ability to teach either French or Spanish at KS3 (and possibly to GCSE and/or A'level) desired but not essential.

Our Languages Department thrives at Newstead. With French, German and Spanish taught to Alevel alongside Japanese, Chinese and Latin as additional options, you will be playing a key role in our large department. Ofsted saw our outstanding curriculum in action in 2022 and our outcomes this summer are the best we have achieved in recent memory. Almost all students achieve a Grade 7 or above in Languages at GCSE and Alevel outcomes have seen students read Languages at Oxbridge.

A willingness to contribute to our extensive enrichment and extra-curricular provision is highly encouraged as this element of our co-curriculum is a key part of our Languages offer.

Our Languages Assistants provide extensive support to our students and we are keen to take advantage of exchange and short stay visits to further develop conversational language skills.

About Us

Newstead Wood School is a highly selective girls’ state secondary school, with a co-educational Sixth Form. The school is heavily over-subscribed. Students here achieve the highest academic standards whilst also benefitting from exceptional pastoral care. Our school badge, with its symbol of the acorn and the motto Fortitudine Crescamus, meaning ‘may we grow in strength’, symbolises the idea of growth, both for the school and for the individual.

The vast majority of our students' progress to Russell Group Universities at the end of our Sixth Form. We are exceptionally proud of our students. Our lessons move at a fast pace and students are routinely challenged in their thinking. All of the Sciences are very popular and students come to their lessons with high expectations and a desire for active and complex learning.

Newstead Wood is situated in Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley and there are excellent rail links to both London Bridge and Victoria Stations.
