We are, quite rightly, proud of our strong and supportive pastoral provision at Newstead Wood School. It enables our students to achieve highly as this support compliments the academic and high achieving nature of our students.

We are seeking to appoint an approachable and well-qualified School Counsellor to work as a key member of our pastoral team in providing one-to-one counselling for our students. The role is a flexible role and we envisage this being a part-time role (2-3 days per week during term time) from September 2021.

At Newstead Wood School we aim to provide a happy and supportive environment and, consistent with our aim of developing each student individually, pastoral care is one of our greatest strengths.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working with young people and will ideally have experience of counselling young people. This role is suitable for newly qualified or experienced counsellors as well as those with experience in an educational setting  and those for whom this will be a new experience. Previous experience in a school role is desirable but not essential. Applicants should hold a current accreditation with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) or United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Newstead Wood School is a highly selective girls’ state secondary school, with a co-educational Sixth Form. The school is heavily over-subscribed. Newstead Wood is situated in Orpington in the London Borough of Bromley and there are excellent rail links to both London Bridge and Victoria Stations.

We are part of the United Learning group of School which encompasses primary, secondary, all-through, state and independent schools. All staff benefit from pay scales higher than the National Pay Scales and 8 CPD days per year. All staff are enrolled into the PerkBox rewards scheme and have access to funded MA’s and high level CPD. We operate a thriving Talent Management programme and colleagues have the opportunity to work with and learn from colleagues across the group.
