Tackle Teen Relationship Abuse - Teaching Resources Available

A teaching resource to support the Home Office’s national This is Abuse campaign was published on 5 December and is available to download here.

The discussion guide has been produced in collaboration with a variety of partners, such as NSPCC, AVA (Against Violence and Abuse) and Child Online Exploitation Centre (CEOP), and has been quality assured by the PSHE Association. It aids individuals working with young people to run informative and effective sessions tackling a major issue: abuse in teen relationships.

Running since 2010, the This is Abuse campaign aims to help prevent teen boys and girls from becoming victims and perpetrators of abusive relationships by:

  • encouraging teens to re-think their views of controlling behaviour, abuse and violence in relationships.
  • educating teens on what constitutes rape, and what consent means within their relationships.
  • signposting teens to help, support and advice on relationship abuse.

The PSHE Association has said it is an excellent resource for teachers with a full range of lesson plans, advice and case studies to set up a powerful piece of learning about this crucial issue.

A range of new and impactful adverts across TV, online and radio have been produced for this year’s campaign, by working with household names including Hollyoaks and MTV. Visit the This is Abuse website to see a range of engaging content, including:

  • additional exclusive Hollyoaks content
  • videos from YouTube vloggers talking directly to teen boys
  • advice and links to where teenagers can get further help
