Be Amazed by Apps

This collection features a number of worksheets, lesson plans, videos and interactive games that can be used with apps on handheld devices. Most resources will work on both Android and iOS devices, so you could use most of these approaches asking the learners to bring in their own devices, if your school policy allows it.

The resources in this collection will allow your learners to go beyond having fun and playing with apps! In fact, these resources blend the enhanced interactivity of multi-touch screens and apps, with structured tasks and activities with clear aims and lesson objectives. The five videos below are tutorials created by Yr8 learners at King Henry VIII School (Abergavenny, Wales) to show how to add interactive features in multi-touch iBooks for the iPad. These iBooks can be created using the free iBooks Author app for Mac computers.

Forces and Motion

The built in cameras, accelerometer and multi-touch screen that most smartphones and tablets have lend themselves to apps that explore how forces and moving objects affect our world. We have created some resources that will help your learners experience these concepts first hand.

Acting the Graph – iPads and fun motion lessons

  • Get your learners draw a Displacement – Time graph with their moving bodies and trace their movement with the Vernier Video Physics app.

Skitch the Force

  • Use the camera in your iDevices to take photos of objects affected by forces and get your learners add force arrows and labels using Skitch.

Socrative – Motion Graphs

  • Engage the whole class with this highly interactive quiz that your learners can complete from any device with an internet browser. We have a whole collection of 14-16 Socrative quizzes here.

Atomic Bomber

  • This worksheet is designed to help learners to use the Atomic Bomber game to learn about the independence of vertical and horizontal components of the velocity vector.

Centre of Mass and Angle Meter App

  • Get your learners find out how the position of the Centre of Mass in various objects affects their balance with our structured worksheet and lesson plan.


There are many interesting Space apps and we are creating a series of worksheets that can be used to guide learners in virtual space explorations that will enhance their understanding of the Universe.
