Get the lowdown on the teacher recruitment market

The first TES careers seminar will cover the labour market for teachers through to 2011 and will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2010 from 9:30am - 13:00pm in the TES offices in central London. Alternatively you can register for online web conferencing and participate from you office. This half day seminar will report on changes in the labour market and consider the prospects for next year when the labour market will be faced with a number of challenges.

The seminar will give attendees the inside track on the teaching recruitment market and would be valuable for those working in local authorities, diocesan and academy staff with responsibility for staffing or planning. Representatives of teacher associations, subject bodies and government departments, senior staff in schools with an interest in planning, teacher trainers and others concerned with teacher supply would also find the seminar invaluable.

Annual review of the labour market for teachers

The seminar will cover the following areas:

  • Trends for posts on the Leadership Scale
  • Pay trends
  • Posts across the secondary school from main scale to head of department
  • Geographical variations in demand
  • The effect of policies such as Teach First and demographic changes
  • The possible effect on the job market of a pupil premium and a cap on senior staff salaries

Education Data Surveys has monitored the labour market for teachers for over a quarter of a century and in Professor John Howson has the country’s leading analyst of market trends.
