£7,000 of prizes available for schools in Wales

TES Wales has teamed up with the Welsh rugby union to launch a competition aimed exclusively at schools in Wales.

The My Best Teacher campaign aims to recognise inspirational teachers in Wales after a survey* – carried out by TES Connect in July this year – revealed that recent changes in education had left many teachers and leaders in Welsh schools feeling frustrated and undervalued.

Lions, Wales and Cardiff Blues back row forward Sam Warburton nominated his two former games teachers, Gwyn Morris and Steve Williams, as his most inspirational teachers. Both Gwyn and Steve still work at Whitchurch High School in Cardiff.

Sam said, "As a youngster I was inspired to fulfil my potential by some great teachers, both in sport and in my other subjects. It's important to recognise inspirational teachers as they can have such a pivotal role in young people's lives."

Now it's your turn to nominate teachers who have inspired you!

The Prize

There are two prizes up for grabs:

  1. The winning teacher will receive a trophy and recognition on TES Wales plus up to £5000 of IT Kit for their school
  1. One runner up will also receive a trophy and recognition on TES Wales plus up to £2000 of IT kit for their school.

Every school in Wales is eligible to take part in the competition and you can enter your nominations today to say thank you to teachers who have inspired you.

Those who will be shortlisted will be contacted via their school to let them know.

What happens next?

The competition runs from 27th September 2013 – 31st May 2014

Each month we will showcase a selection of entries that we receive online to recognise as many of the nominations as possible.

We will notify every school with a nominated teacher that they could be in with a chance of winning.

The panel of judges will review all of the nominations and vote for one winner and one runner up.

There will be two winners who will receive an award for themselves and a prize for their school as detailed above.

The judging panel is made up of representatives of TES, WRU and third parties.

Prizes will be awarded before the end of summer term 2014.

TES Wales has been created to give something back to Welsh professionals in the education sector by providing a platform through which they can communicate, share lesson plans, find the latest industry news and features, and access the latest job opportunities and careers advice for FREE.
