  • To work as an active member in the role of a CRT of the Cycles 1-3 team, collaborating with the classroom teachers and assistants to create a quality Montessori learning environment.
  • To work cooperatively to promote children’s well-being and self-worth in a safe environment.

  • To demonstrate initiative and autonomy





  • The PVIMS curriculum will be led by the Cycle Director in conjunction with the Leadership Team.

  • The curriculum leadership will meet regularly. The Principal will attend as required.
  • The Cycles 1-3 CRT is responsible for:
  • The overall leadership for the allocated Cycles 1-3 classroom
  • Engaging in professional conduct with the best interests of the school
  • Overseeing the classroom curriculum and latest innovative scholarship, research to enhance PVIMS curriculum
  • Leave written notes for the teacher about the program, students and conversations with staff and parents
  • Sharing ideas with staff
  • Participate in the analysis of learning data/observations to inform student and staff learning
  • Work in collaboration with the Cycle Director and Principal in guiding the classroom for the appointed timeframe
  • Insert regular Classroom updates in the newsletter when appropriate
  • To follow up requests regarding curriculum from the Cycle Director
  • Assist with enquiries about the curriculum and Cycles 1-3 when appropriate
  • Mentor your assistant regarding the Montessori curriculum
  • Participate in Curriculum education sessions that relate to Cycles 1-3 on days that you are employed





As an active Team Member to support the classroom with the:


  • Care and Supervision of the students
  • Presentation of Montessori materials
  • In collaboration with staff, plan and implement the content in various curriculum areas
  • Determine and execute the routines in order to ensure smooth running of the classroom
  • Leave written notes for the teacher about the program, students and conversations with staff and parents
  • Share responsibility for a safe and clean environment
  • Awareness of and compliance to all Regulations
  • Knowledge and promotion of PVIMS philosophy and values
  • Attendance and participation in Staff meetings level meetings and classroom meetings


Duties include


1. Foster Montessori Learning Experiences

  • Follow Montessori principles and the use of the Montessori materials
  • Support the inclusion of children with additional learning needs in the classroom and activities
  • Aid and encourage the growth of each child’s independence



2. Observe Regularly

  • Guide appropriate meal time/Practical life behaviour
  • Oversee lunch time rosters so that the children are observed and supervised at lunch times and play times



3. Display the Following Personal Qualities

  • A cooperative attitude towards other staff
  • A collaborative and open attitude towards dealing with parents
  • An ability to express warmth and acceptance to each child, and to respond sensitively to the emotional
  • needs of each child
  • An ability to direct and elicit respect and cooperation from children
  • To act professionally and treat information gained in the classroom as confidential
  • Demonstrated understanding of Montessori principles and ability to apply these in the classroom
  • An eagerness to learn
  • The ability to work as part of a team


4. Enhance Communication and the Development of Relationships Between Children and Adults

  • Give grace and courtesy lessons
  • Redirect disruptive children
  • Encourage positive social exchanges between the children, and children resolving problems themselves (with
  • guidance at first)
  • Facilitate the social development of children with special needs
  • Professional behaviour at all times and engage in open lines of communication
  • Utmost respect for confidentiality



5. Maintain and Care for the Environment

  • Ensure all materials are in good condition
  • Ensure children use materials with respect and responsibility
  • Make, update, clean and repair materials as necessary



6. Encourage Parents to Observe and Meet Frequently

  • Communicate concerns clearly and sensitively, at all times maintaining confidentiality
  • Follow the intervention procedure if necessary
  • Create an environment that makes parents feel welcome to come and observe the classroom



7. Guide Teaching

  • To ensure consistency with expectations of the role
  • To assist with maintenance of the environment
  • To develop positive relationships with colleagues, children and parents
  • To develop knowledge and skills necessary to assist with children’s learning experiences





Completion of a recognized Montessori course (for example from either from AMI or MWEI), registration with

VIT, recognition and approval from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority




  • Extensive understanding of the Montessori Approach
  • Extensive understanding of Early Childhood development (Cycle 1)
  • Sound understanding of and strong ability to implement a wide range of communication and behaviour management strategies





This position is accountable to the Cycles 1-3 Director and the Principal/delegate.
