Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced assistants for the following role;

Full Time (5 days/week)


Fixed Contract 28 Jan till 31 December (includes 4 weeks Annual Leave)


Ruyton Early Learning caters for children 3 to 5 years of age in a preschool style early learning environment. The Ruyton Early Learning Co-Educator (Assistant) is firstly responsible to the Director of Early Learning and is required to cooperatively carry out duties as required by the teacher of the group to which the Co-Educator is assigned while showing initiative in the care of young children.


Working as a Ruyton Early Learning team member:

  • able to uphold and incorporate the Ruyton Philosophy
  • works as a congenial and flexible team member, sharing in the many and various duties which ensure the smooth running of all aspects of REL
  • shows open and constructive communication with the staff and families.


Working in the Ruyton Early Learning environment:

  • knows and upholds the current Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) regulations
  • is aware of and is working within the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)
  • provides a safe, clean, ordered, welcoming and stimulating environment for children, parents and staff
  • ensures that a child/the children do not come to harm or experience trauma
  • assists the teacher by carrying out the duties required for the care of the children and the success of the programme
  • assists the teacher by planning collaboratively and helping in the assessments and observations of the children’s learning, in negotiation with the teacher
  • assists with the provision of attractive presentations of play materials both indoors and out
  • arranges suitable displays and documentation of children’s work
  • carries out general house-keeping duties as required by the teacher and by the needs of the centre.


Working with the children

  • helps children to develop secure attachments, a positive self-image, independence, resilience and responsibility
  • encourages creativity, and the development of skills and values
  • maintains firm and nurturing procedures which promote successful behaviour
  • management and the development of self-discipline
  • in collaboration with the Director of Early Learning and the teacher, assists in the
  • provision of a stimulating programme in accordance with the Ruyton Early Learning
  • Philosophy and the EYLF.


Working with the parents:

  • welcoming and respectful in communication with parents
  • refers parents and information regarding children/families back to the teacher
  • works in conjunction with all staff in providing successful outcomes for children and
  • families.


Assessment and Evaluation:

  • ability to evaluate own performance and carries out the Ruyton Review Programme
  • maintains professionalism in all areas
  • participates in professional development.



  • a Diploma of Children’s Services as a minimum
  • a sound knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards
  • a current first aid, anaphylaxis and asthma management accreditation
  • a current working with children check
  • availability to work full time during school holidays in Terms 1, 2 and 3, and until December 24 in Term 4
  • available to work 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) and attend staff meetings and evening functions when required
  • a commitment to maintaining a calm and nurturing environment for children and an understanding of creating positive partnerships with parents.
