Applications are being sought for experienced and fully qualified Early Childhood educators to lead and teach within our centre in 2014.  The teacher position may be full or part time.


Early Learning Centre Coordinator


Oakleigh Grammar requires a qualified Early Childhood Teacher to be the ELC Coordinator in 2014. This is a full-time position commencing in Term 1, 2014.


Position and Responsibilities:

This position assumes a significant level of autonomy. The position reports directly to the Head of Junior School on the broad range of activities in the Early Learning Centre for which the position is responsible.


The desired applicant will display:

  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills
  • A thorough understanding and an insight into the teaching and learning of Early Childhood Education
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the children and their families
  • An ability to provide a secure and stimulating environment
  • Knowledge and facilitation of the Early Years Learning Framework
  • Knowledge and facilitation of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy
  • Knowledge and facilitation of the Quality Improvement Plan and accreditation
  • Proven leadership in an Early Childhood facility


The desired applicant will have:

  • Victorian Working With Children Check
  • First Aid Training
  • Anaphylaxis Training
  • Experience working as an Early Childhood Teacher


The desired applicant will be a passionate educator who will lead our children to experience the richness of the Australian culture. The Early Learning Centre Coordinator has the responsibility of modelling exemplary teaching practice based on the Reggio Emilia Philosophy. The person appointed would have a teaching load of between 0.6 and 0.8FTE, negotiable.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Create and maintain a safe and stimulating environment for young children (ages 0-5) as an educational leader for the ELC
  • Supervise ELC staff
  • Provide detailed information for teaching staff at the start of the academic year
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations and licensing requirements
  • Ensure completion of all necessary forms on a daily basis including sign on and off sheets and electronic versions
  • Keep abreast of staff communication notices Support for ELC teachers and others in contact with parents on all matters
  • Create a safe, supportive and informative environment for families
  • Ensure that equipment and resources are respected and maintained to an optimal level of safety
  • Exercise a high degree of diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Ensure a high standard of hygiene in compliance with centre procedures and policies
  • Administer first aid or medication in compliance with centre procedures and policies
  • Ensure that children are safe and adequately supervised at all times
  • Plan, implement and evaluate learning and play-based programs suitable to the individual needs and interests of children and the Reggio Emilia Philosophy
  • Undertake other duties as directed from the Head of Junior School and Senior Leadership Team
  • Effective communication with staff in the ELC about learning program requirements
  • Establish understandings of agreed terminology and program that include the Quality Improvement Plan, Reggio Emilia and National Early Years Framework
  • Effective in-servicing of relevant staff on ICT systems
  • Ensuring the innovative use of ICT by all teachers, teacher aides and children appropriate to the development needs of the children
  • Establish in particular, agreed schedule of events supporting vital transitions in the Junior School
  • The enrolment of children in the ELC, their orientation to the ELC and their transition to the Preparatory Year
  • Conduct tours of the ELC
  • Facilitation of efficient and effective meetings/briefings to support desired outcomes
  • Efficient and effective monitoring of the offerings of the ELC
  • Concise and insightful reporting to the Head of Junior School of current status and future possibilities
  • Events – scheduling, planning and implementation of day to day and major events in the ELC and


School Calendar

  • Coordinate parent information evenings, interviews, portfolio evening and Open mornings
  • Deliver an effective orientation program for all ELC students and parents
  • Oversee the maintenance of the ELC building and grounds
  • Coordinate the Out of School Hours Program



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education
  • Current First Aid and Anaphylaxis certificate
  • Working With Children Background Check clearance
  • Current Supervisors Certificate
