POSITION CONTEXT:

Scotch College Adelaide is an Early Learning to Year 12 co-educational day and boarding school affiliated with the Uniting Church of Australia. The College has a balanced enrolment, with up to 975 students, including a maximum of 108 boarders and 50 international students.The College is organised into three schools; the Junior School (Early Learning to Year 6) located on the Mitcham campus, and the Middle School (Years 7 to 9) and Senior School (Years 10 to 12), both located on the Torrens Park campus. The College will be introducing Approved Long Day Care in the Early Learning Centre from 22 July, 2013. The College also owns and operates an environmental educational facility (Kyre Campus) on Kangaroo Island, a remote Outdoor Education facility (Goose Island) and two off-campus rowing facilities (West Lakes & River Torrens). The College has a well-established ICT focus with all students from Years 7 to 12 using notebook computers in the classroom. The College has a focused program of Positive Psychology. The Early Learning Centre embeds Program Achieve in the curriculum.

 

LINE MANAGEMENT:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Early Years
  • Responsible to the Head of Junior School
  • Ultimately responsible to the Principal as CEO of the College

 

COLLEAGUES:

  • Immediate team: ELC and OSHC Staff
  • Liaises with Junior School staff and all other College Employees

 

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Director of Early Years, the Diploma Qualified Educator is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing a program for children in our Extended Care programs. This will involve liaising closely with all staff in our Educational programs.

 

The Diploma Qualified Educator will be responsible for ensuring the National Quality Standards are adhered to in Extended Care.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver a high quality program for children in Extended Care using the Early Years Framework
  • Plan and deliver personalised learning programs and document outcomes for children in Extended Care
  • Contribute to the ongoing Quality Improvement Plans of the ELC and their implementation
  • Contribute to the planning, monitoring and implementation of the ELC program in line with the Early Years Framework and the National Quality standards
  • Liaise closely with staff in the Educational program of the ELC to ensure continuity for children in Extended Care
  • Ensure that all documentation and administrative tasks are completed fully and in a timely manner
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management and administration of Extended Care, including compliance with all licencing, statutory and quality assurance requirements
  • Provide an environment that values and supports children’s learning, an environment that is safe, nurturing, inclusive, challenging and promotes a sense of belonging and self-worth
  • Develop positive and trusting relationships with children, carers, parents and educators
  • Write and submit an article for Cluaran magazine each year, including photos and promotion material
  • Input data as required
  • Monitor daily attendance and enquiries
  • Ensure that staffing is compliant
  • Ensure that Holiday Program is planned in a timely manner
  • Act as an excellent role model for students, colleagues and parents
  • Maintain adequate supervision of students at all times
  • Identify and assist with the resolution of issues as they arise
  • Assist the Director of Early Years to respond to all emergency situations
  • Administer First Aid if required
  • Contact parents/caregivers if an accident or incident arises and follow ELC procedures
  • Contribute to a safe, healthy environment for staff and students through compliance with WHS policies and other College policies
  • Liaise with health professionals, such as the College Nurse, when required
  • Maintain an excellent awareness of the needs of all children in the ELC
  • Other duties as required qualifications
  • Diploma Children Services and experience related to the responsibilities required by the position.
  • All applicants must have a federal police check and have completed training in Childsafe Environments (formerly known as Mandatory Notification) and Senior First Aid. Evidence of this should be attached to your application.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Proven experience in working and providing excellent customer service in an Early Childhood / Child Care setting
  • An understanding of the Early Years Framework and National Quality Standards is essential

 

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THIS POSITION:

  • Working hours will be mostly outside of school hours and during school holidays
  • Participation in school open days and other marketing events
