EDUCATION OFFICER – LITERACY (Maternity Leave Replacement)

The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for the following temporary position in the Catholic Education Office commencing on 8 October 2013 or by negotiation.


(Maternity Leave Replacement)


A member of the Curriculum and Pedagogy Team, this position requires significant experience in literacy learning and the capacity to support primary schools in Commonwealth, State and Diocesan literacy initiatives. It will also involve supporting the implementation of the Australian Curriculum, the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework, and the Diocesan Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. The position will commence on 8 October 2013 or by negotiation and is likely to continue as a temporary position for the first three terms of 2014.




Applicants will need to provide evidence of:

  • A deep understanding and commitment to the mission and purpose of a Catholic school within the broader evangelising mission of the Catholic Church.
  • A well-articulated Catholic pedagogy and capacity to implement the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework.
  • Awell articulated understanding of quality literacy practice based on the current evidence-based research.
  • Successful experience as an outstanding classroom literacy practitioner.
  • Highly developed inter-personal and organisational skills with a particular capacity to inspire staff, bring about change and work collaboratively in a team.
  • A capacity to work with schools in their School Review and Improvement processes.
  • The ability to design and deliver quality professional learning experiences for teachers.
  • A commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning, particularly shown through successful post-graduate studies and engagement in professional development relevant to this position.


The Catholic Education Office is an agency of the Church called to stewardship and service in support of the System of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong. Through partnerships with clergy, parents, staff, school leaders and students it contributes to strengthening the Communion of the Church.
