HISTORY TEACHER - Red Hill

HISTORY TEACHER

Canberra Grammar School in Red Hill

The position is a part-time, temporary one in the first instance for the whole of the 2014 school year (approximately 0.75 FTE). It is partly to replace a member of staff retiring after many years of distinguished service to the School.

History is a compulsory subject for boys in Years 7 – 10 and our aim is to develop well-informed global citizens. This course leads to the award of an ACT Year 10 School Certificate and is part of a school-based curriculum with attention being given to the Australian Curriculum and to Stages 4 and 5 NSW School Certificate requirements.

Year 11 and 12 students follow the course prescribed by the Board of Studies for the NSW Higher School Certificate. In 2013, the IB Diploma course was introduced and the first cohort will have their Diploma examinations in 2014.

The 2013 Year 12 cohort of 137 students sees 37 boys taking Modern History (in three classes) and 18 taking Ancient History (in one class). The History Extension course has 16 enrolments.

The School is justifiably proud of outstanding History results over recent years. Approximately 40% of candidates achieve Band 6 in both Ancient and Modern History.

Experience in the teaching of Ancient Civilisations (China, Egypt, and Greece) to Year7 and the ability also to teach another subject would be highly regarded. A passion for the teaching of History is essential.
