The Newington College Library at the Stanmore Secondary campus is an innovative high-tech learning centre supporting 21st century education by promoting innovation, creativity, literature, transliteracy, ICT and digital citizenship skills. The new Library, opened in 2013, is an integral hub within the school, focused on being a central contributor to the academic fabric of the College and to College life.
The primary role of the Library at Newington College Stanmore Secondary Campus is to support the teaching and learning of students via the provision of engaging and relevant library services. The Learning & Teaching Librarian’s role is to support the Newington College Library in achieving the College’s strategic goals.
The Library team consists of:
1. Head of Library Services
2. Learning and Teaching Librarian – Research priority
3. Learning and Teaching Librarian – Literature priority
4. Library Operations Manager
5. Digital Media and Electronic Resources Technician
6. Collections and Systems Technician
7. Library Assistant (p/t)
8. ICT Facilitator
9. ICT Facilitator
The College is seeking a Learning and Teaching Librarian with a research priority (position 2 above). The position may be filled by a qualified Teacher Librarian or a Teacher willing to gain the Master of Education in Teacher
Librarianship or a qualified Librarian willing to gain a teacher qualification.
The core purpose of this role is to deliver a broad range of information literacy, research, ICT and digital citizenship services. The role fuses technological, content, and pedagogical knowledge to support transliteracy and ICT integration into learning and teaching.
A particular focus of this role is the fostering and development of high level research skills through coordination of the senior IB (International Baccalaureate) extended essay program and HSC/IB research skills program.
This role suits a highly motivated teacher/librarian with a high work ethic and a demonstrated understanding of 21st Century teaching pedagogy, high level technology, content and pedagogical knowledge, as well as an understanding of modern libraries and library and information principles in particular with regards to a school context. The role also requires an understanding of the need to balance technology-rich and innovative services which may fall outside the scope of traditional library services, while still supporting these traditional services.
This role reports to the Head of Library Services.
