SS1 Classifying shapes

  • Activities to help learners of secondary mathematics name and classify polygons, develop mathematical language to describe the similarities and differences between shapes and develop explanations as to why combinations of particular properties are impossible.

SS2 Understanding perimeter and area

  • Activities to help learners of secondary mathematics to understand the difference between perimeter and area and give them practice in calculating the area and perimeters of rectangular shapes.

SS3 Dissecting a square

  • Activities to enable learners of secondary mathematics to express a part/whole diagram in fractions or percentages, convert a fraction to a percentage, calculate areas of shapes and add, subtract and multiply fractions.

SS4 Evaluating statements about length and area

  • Activities to enable learners of secondary mathematics to recognise and visualise transformations of 2D shapes, translate, rotate, reflect and combine these transformations.

SS8 Developing an exam question: Transformations

  • Activities to help learners of secondary mathematics to use past examination papers creatively, to recognise transformations of 2D shapes and to develop their ability to explore their own questions in this context.
