The Chinese teacher position may be full-time or part-time ongoing from the beginning of 2014.
The position involves teaching Chinese (Mandarin) across the Senior School from Years 7 to 12. A willingness to participate in overseas excursions as part of the School’s exchange program is essential.
The successful applicant will have academic qualifications in the study of Mandarin from a recognised university and relevant post-graduate teaching qualifications. The ability to teach another subject will be very highly regarded.
The Languages Department currently offers five languages: Chinese, French, German, Latin and Spanish (introduced in 2013 ab initio for the IB Diploma program).
The Department is housed in a purpose-built facility called the International Centre.
The five standard classrooms are supported by a Conference Room, a computer laboratory, and a kitchen. The staff room is spacious and well equipped.
Currently, French is compulsory from Year 3 to Year 7. In 2013 Chinese was introduced into our Primary School.
Chinese, German and Latin are all strong elective subjects from Years 8 – 10, and a smaller number of boys continue into Years 11 and 12, where our candidates present for the NSW Higher School Certificate. They now also have the choice to present for the IB Diploma examinations.
The School regularly goes on an exchange visits to China, Germany and France (more or less every two years) and undertakes family stays at schools where we have well developed links. The return visits happen in the other years.
