Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated professionals to apply for the role of Upper Primary School Co-ordinator to commence at our Junior School Kew Campus in 2014.

 

Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellence in their teaching, together with high level skills in the use of technology in the teaching and learning process. They must be fully committed to the aims and ethos of a Christian co-educational international school, and be prepared to participate in its co-curricular program.

 

The key purpose of this role is to provide pastoral leadership of students in Years 4-6, Upper Primary parents and staff, supported by the Head of School and Deputy Head – Student Welfare. This role encompasses key leadership, management and development responsibilities. The Upper Primary Co-ordinator will develop and maintain effective operational procedures and contribute to a range of programs related to student wellbeing policies and practices. The position of responsibility has a .2 time fraction and requires the successful candidate to be teaching in the Upper Primary area, in a .8 time fraction.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Wellbeing

  • Ensure knowledge of, communication and follow up of Upper Primary student welfare issues
  • Assist the Deputy Head –Student Welfare in the development of appropriate tone, discipline and morale in the Junior School.
  • Coordinate Upper Primary section meetings.
  • Support the day to day implementation of the JS discipline policy.
  • Investigate breaches of discipline by Junior School students and respond to discipline problems
  • Communicate effectively and harmoniously with parents and staff with the aim of maintaining a consistent, strong, positive tone in the School.
  • Assist with the wellbeing of staff in conjunction with the Head, Deputy Head – Student Welfare and the Junior School Chaplain.
  • In consultation with Human Resources and the Head of Junior School, participate in the induction of new staff members to Junior School

 

Development

  • Develop and lead effective student leadership programs and co-ordinate the Year 6 Leadership program
  • Assist with the regular review of existing well-being policies and programs, ensuring programs are relevant, supportive of school strategic intentions and whole school and Junior School goals.
  • Support staff Professional Development on wellbeing issues and, as appropriate, in conjunction with JS Executive arrange information sharing at staff meetings

 

Administration

  • Plan and conduct fortnightly Upper Primary Junior School Assemblies.
  • Assist Deputy Head –Welfare to ensure student behaviour meets high expectations (eg uniform, punctuality)
  • Assist with the orientation and transition of new Upper Primary Students
  • Presentation at Parent Information Evenings.
  • Assist the Head of JS Sport with 5/6 APS
  • Assist with the preparation and co-ordination of the Upper Primary budget
  • Assist with co-ordination and planning of Year 4, 5, 6 school camps and excursions

 

Meetings

  • JS Executive Meetings - weekly
  • Junior School Admin Meeting – fortnightly
  • Attend Coordinators –fortnightly
  • Pastoral Care Committee-fortnightly

 

Liaison

  • Liaise with classroom teachers and Heads of House on student issues
  • Meet regularly with the Head of School to discuss progress, issues and concerns
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff with the aim of maintaining a consistent, strong, positive tone in the School

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertake a teaching load deemed appropriate by the Principal.
  • To deputise for the Deputy Head –Welfare of Junior School in their absence or when requested.
