About Aorere College
Aorere College is a co-educational secondary school for students aged 13-18. It is based in Auckland in New Zealand.
Aorere College provides a broad curriculum at both junior and senior level, which includes an emphasis on the development of the essential skills of literacy and numeracy. Students, however, are also given the opportunity to develop skills across the full range of other learning areas. Junior classes are generally mixed ability, but there is the opportunity for more gifted students to work at an accelerated level. Supported learning classes are also provided for students working well below expected curriculum levels. The school also offers a range of programmes in association with tertiary providers which provide for career pathways such as construction, mechanical engineering, plumbing, hospitality and catering. There is also internet access available across the school.
Values and vision
Aorere College’s underlying philosophy is about developing a positive environment where staff, students and parents feel safe, welcome, and respected. The school believes this is crucial when it comes to creating and maintaining a positive school culture. To better maintain a positive culture around the school, Aorere College holds many activities throughout the year, such as manners weeks, classroom makeovers, attendance awards, staff morning teas, and cultural weeks to celebrate the many different cultural groups represented at the school. Aorere College also believes in rewarding students for making positive contributions to the school. Vouchers and postcards are therefore used to help to encourage students.
