About Ark Elvin Academy

Ark Elvin is an eight-form secondary school and sixth form in Wembley, north-west London. The school joined the Ark network in September 2014 having been placed in special measures in 2013.

Ark Elvin's school motto is Magne aude – dare for greatness. Not only do we dare for greatness, we support our teachers who dare as well. The school is improving quickly, something which is reflecting well on each staff member, including its supportive senior leadership team.

We’ll soon be opening our new, bright and airy building, which will feature a new library and a dining hall opening onto a courtyard, along with modern classrooms, a 5 court sports hall and a sixth form common room and study space. Outside, staff and students will benefit from a new all-weather pitch for sports like football, hockey, rugby and cricket and a multi-use games area for sports like basketball, netball and mini-tennis.

Our clear behaviour management system across the school allows our staff to concentrate on what they do best and students to focus on learning.

We are committed to providing our staff with everything they need to be the best teacher possible with access to unparalleled levels of CPD. From hub days with subject leads across the Ark network, to moderation workshops with AQA examiners, to network-wide projects such as English Mastery, to training that focuses on our school's specific needs such as the implementation of EAL. We want our teachers to continue to develop and grow alongside our students and our school.

At Ark Elvin, we support and value all our staff. We treat every staff member as an individual and value their hard work and contributions they make to the school. We have a culture of positivity at Ark Elvin and give regular shout-outs and praise in staff meetings. We celebrate our successes and recognise that hard work we're putting in now will make our school exceptional in the future.

We are a language specialist school, with a significant focus on the development of literacy for all pupils, English language skills in pupils who speak other languages, and an appreciation of language as a means for communication with and understanding of others. This includes daily reading for all pupils, as research and experience show that this is a great driver of future success in all subjects; we also have a very successful modern foreign languages department.

As an Ark school we focus on depth before breadth, ensuring that our pupils secure firm foundations in English and mathematics. We prioritise depth in these subjects, giving pupils the best chance of academic success across all their studies. This means that pupils have more curriculum time for these subjects than in most schools, with up to 6 per week in each, and we have adopted the English Mastery and Mathematics Mastery curriculums.

What people say about us

Ark does a lot of free CPD for other teachers and they’re looking to recruit the most hardworking teachers. You do feel when you join Ark that you are part of a network that wants to develop you as a teacher and that’s been a really big part of my experience here.
