About British International School of Ljubljana

British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) is an 'Outstanding' School.

BISL is a mixed, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It caters for approximately 240 students between the ages of 2-18, and all teaching is provided in English. Its primary school follows the National Curriculum for England and a topic based curriculum in Primary, while its secondary school students have GCSE, IGCSE and A Level examinations approved by AQA and Cambridge University, due to its status as a Cambridge International School. It is an Accredited member of the Council of British International Schools and member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).

The School was founded in September 2008 and received high honours from the start, including a visit from H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh the same year it opened and a visit from the Duke and Countess of Wessex four years later.

The academic outcomes are outstanding at IGCSE and A Level and the staff to student ratio as an average across the school is at 5:1.  The small class sizes, high standards and thoughtful provision for welfare creates opportunities for students to develop quickly with their learning and enhances their confidence.  All teachers are either UK trained or internationally experienced.  The school is part of the Orbital Education Group with 10 schools worldwide.  Opportunities to collaborate with others across the world give the students at school a global understanding of cultures and beliefs.  It takes great pride in the excellent provision for students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

"The British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) is an outstanding school. It is held in high regard by the local community."

The British International School of Ljubljana exemplifies a school that goes above and beyond for education. I cannot express enough how impressed we were with the expert and kind support we received from the school. With a professional staffing team and excellent facilities, it is clear from the smiling faces of the students that this is a school anyone would be very proud indeed to attend.

The leadership here at BISL is strong, communicative and approachable. The Principal simply radiates trust. Teachers give personalised attention to each child and this is reflected in their academic outcomes. The school has our full support, as we know that our children are in great hands.”

- Secondary school parent

- Primary school parent

My chosen subject teachers are all hard-working and dedicated to my wellbeing as a student, and at the same time they are equally goal-focused, on honing my academic abilities with every single one of my teachers going outside of work hours to make sure I get feedback on my work as quickly as possible. Their critiques are always constructive and helpful, making my improvements evident throughout the academic year.
