Our aims
The school’s aims are as follows:

The following statement of aims guides the ongoing work and development of the school:

To create a friendly, caring and supportive school in which everyone feels valued.
To enable children to progress and achieve their best.
To support children with special education needs and to include them in all aspects of school life whenever possible. To provide a school curriculum which encourages children’s enjoyment of and commitment to learning.
To enable each child to become confident and responsible and to learn to empathies and co-operate with others.
To provide a happy, calm environment by applying a clear and consistent code of behaviour followed by all members of the school community.
To challenge discrimination and stereotyping and to enable all children to develop a positive self-image and sense of identity.
To affirm our multicultural society and encourage appreciation and understanding of different ways of life.
To maintain a close and positive relationship between home, school and community.
To foster a positive attitude towards healthy eating, exercise and an active lifestyle and to promote enjoyment and achievement in sport.
To promote creativity in all aspects of teaching and learning, and to value the importance of music, art, design and drama in providing a broad and balanced curriculum.

Our vision for the future

This vision statement was written after extensive consultation with pupils, parents/carers and staff. It is our vision for where the school aims to be by 2010. We are already well on the way! The vision was updated in 2007 to reflect awareness of environmental issues and our ambition to make IT a fundamental part of school life.

Highgate Primary School:

1 ...where children achieve high academic standards through a creative and enriching curriculum.
2 ...where there is a strong partnership between the school and parents and carers.
3 ...where children are empowered through their social and emotional awareness.
4 ...where children and staff participate in an active, healthy and environmentally responsible community.
5 ...where we have links with other local schools and groups in the community.
6 ...where children and staff learn in partnership with Blanche Nevile School for deaf children.
7 ...where IT (Information Technology) is the ‘golden thread’ that enhances all aspects of school life.
