About Joseph Swan Academy
Our Vision and Values
We are very proud to be named after the very famous physicist and chemist Sir Joseph Wilson Swan (31st October 1828 – 27th May 1914). Joseph Swan was the inventor of the very first light bulb (invented very close to the actual Academy). The light bulb is now an item that people have in their homes and businesses all across the world. We are incredibly proud to be named after such a famous man and this is the reason that we both use and believe in the word ‘Shine’ in regard to everything that we do here in our Academy.
Our ethos here is ‘Where Everyone Can Shine’. Joseph Swan Academy is a fully inclusive Academy. We welcome our students from all walks of life and all academic abilities. We are very proud of our student body and support them in maturing into empowered young citizens both now and in the future. We want all our students to participate in all opportunities our Academy has to offer, to enjoy their learning and to achieve the best results they possibly can. To enable this to happen our students are both supported and challenged throughout their time at our Academy through the outstanding pastoral care offered by our year teams and associate staff and through quality teaching delivered by our exceptionally talented and committed teaching team. Our Governing Body both supports and challenges the staff to ensure our students have the best education that can be delivered.
At Joseph Swan Academy we want our students to say ‘I Shine’, to be proud of their achievements and to be aspirational and empowered in regard to their futures. We want our students to use the ‘ne’ in Shine to stand for ‘no excuses’ and to truly believe that with hard work, commitment and 100% effort they can ‘Shine’ for the rest of their lives.
Be part of it!
