About Merchant Taylors' Girls' School

Merchant Taylor’s Girls’ School is a girls-only, secondary comprehensive, non-denominational all-through school with sixth form situated in Crosby in northern Liverpool. It is an independent school and is a sister school to Merchant Taylor’s Boys’ School. A larger than average size for a secondary school, the school will provide 1,050 places for primary, secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 4-18 when fully subscribed.

The school was first set up in 1888 following the establishment of its boys’ equivalent in 1874. The close proximity of the two schools allow collaboration for occasions such as musical productions and co-educational lessons for sixth form students.

Values and Vision

Merchant Taylor’s Girls’ is a place that values its rich past as it does look forward to its vibrant future. The aim of the school is to discover the potential of students and help them grow into confident and successful young adults through its strong pastoral care.

“The high-quality, aspirational teaching ensures that the school is highly successful in meeting its aim of educating pupils in the fullest sense. Academic attainment is above the national average and pupils’ attitudes to learning are excellent. Good specialist support is provided for pupils with SEND, but class teaching does not consistently make use of strategies identified to help them [and] the more able pupils are provided with extra challenge in class and in wider activities. Pupils achieve significant success in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.”
