About Mexborough Academy
Mexborough Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 11-18 academy with sixth form, situated in Mexborough in South Yorkshire. It is part of the Wakefield City Academies Trust.
The secondary academy aims to personalise the curriculum to meet all students' needs; it feels very strongly that a bespoke and fit for purpose curriculum provides the building blocks on which good teaching and learning can take place. The academy integrates vocational and academic subjects to make sure attainment is rising, including in the core subjects English and mathematics.
The Sixth Form offers a range of courses, including traditional academic subjects and BTEC courses, both on site and in collaboration with Balby Carr Community Academy, its partner Sixth Form.
Values and vision
Mexborough Academy aims to help each and every one of its students develop into mature and confident young people who are fully prepared for life beyond the academy. It is extremely aspirational for its students, both academically and in relation to personal development – each student is treated as an individual and the academy does not place limits on what it thinks they can achieve. It believes all students are unique and have a valuable contribution to make towards the academy.
Mexborough Academy insists on the highest standards of behaviour and believes in an ethos of respect, courtesy, tolerance and hard work. It fosters a ‘can do’ attitude where students are encouraged to move out of their comfort zone, participate in new experiences and not to fear failure. This, coupled with its state-of-the-art facilities in a recently built and well-equipped building, creates an environment where students flourish.
