About Newton College

About Newton College

Newton College is an Anglo-Peruvian, co-educational, bilingual, day school for students aged 2 to 18. It was founded in 1979 with the aim of offering a modern, humanistic and technological education combining academic excellence, sound character formation and a sense of service to the community. The curriculum draws on the best of Peruvian, British and international curricula. The College introduced the International Baccalaureate curriculum to Peru in 1986 and has delivered the IB Diploma Programme since 1987. The IB Primary Years programme was introduced in 2003 and in 2019 we hope to be authorised to teach the IB Diploma Programme. The school’s IBDP results are constantly above the world average since our students study most of their courses in English, they obtain the Bilingual Diploma. On graduating from Newton almost all our students continue their studies in the top universities in Peru and around the world.

We have a holistic curriculum which stimulates the cognitive, emotional, social and physical development of pupils. All subjects in the curriculum have equal importance; the arts are just as important as the sciences, sport is just as important as humanities, technology and languages are on an equal par. All of our pupils learn to play a musical instrument from the age of 5.

We have a very rich extended curriculum which includes all the major sports, drama, debates, MUN, dance, music ensembles, scouts and various other activities. Our older students organise and participate in a variety of community service projects with the local and external community. We have embedded education for sustainable development (ESD) as one of the major pillars in our curriculum.

The school is built on a large, beautiful campus next to our own lake in one of the most attractive suburbs of Lima. The facilities include: a new and state-of-the-art nursery school, a modern sports centre, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a theatre for 1,000 people, a large refectory, extensive playing fields for athletics, soccer and rugby, as well as volleyball and basketball courts.

In addition, Newton College own a large plot of land in the Amazon Rainforest where it has built a study centre for secondary and university students. This is located in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.

At present there are approximately 1560 students on roll and 170 full-time teaching staff. The majority of the students are from Peru (about 90%) but there are also students from around 30 other countries. The school is a member of the Latin American Heads Conference ( ), the British Schools of Peru ( ) and the Association of Bilingual Schools in Lima ( We have recently been invited to join the Global Alliance of Innovative Learning (GAIL). This is GAIL ( is an association of eight like-minded schools that see education as a transformative experience which generates innovation, increases global awareness and promotes multicultural respect (
