About Rawlins Academy

With its 300 year history Rawlins is routed in the small village community of Quorn in which it is located. Close to the university town of Loughborough, it is well served by a good range of facilities, retaining an old world charm.  Quorn is surrounded by beautiful countryside in the heart of Charnwood.

The school has around 1500 pupils aged 11-18, making it larger than the average school of its type. Up until 2013, the school did not accept pupils younger than 14, but it has since moved into full secondary school status. In 2012, the school converted to academy status. Although the vast majority of teaching takes place on-site, Rawlins Academy also makes use of external providers for students with particular educational needs.

We have an outstanding sixth form with value added progress which is the strongest of all providers in the area and is in the top 15% in the country.

Rawlins also provides high quality education for a smaller cohort of students with moderate learning difficulties in our Skills for Learning special unit and we are proud of the opportunities for special education in a mainstream setting which we provide. In September 2018 we will also have a dedicated unit for students with high functioning ASD.

Beyond results, we are very proud of the opportunities which all students have across many successful areas including sport, the arts and charity work. We are confident that our coaching system ensures the best possible personal care, advice and guidance for students.

Values and Vision

Rawlins Academy draws much of its ethos from traditional Christian Values, and as such works hard to foster a sense of community around the school, with students being expected to show respect and care for both themselves and their peers. In terms of academic exploits, the school operates a diverse and well-balanced curriculum, intended to ensure that pupils have access to a range of opportunities regardless of background or academic ability.

“‘The Rawlins Way’, a set of values underpinned by biblical sources, is fully implemented by staff and gives clear direction to all aspects of academy life.” (SIAMS report, 2017)

We expect all members of the Rawlins community particularly senior leaders to welcome and promote our Christian ethos.

The Rawlins Way:

  • We respect and care for each other
  • We work hard to learn and to achieve
  • We face challenges positively together

Effectiveness of leadership and management                Good

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment                 Good

Personal development, behaviour and welfare               Good

Outcomes for pupils                                                                           Good

16 to 19 study programmes                                                          Outstanding

“The curriculum is broad and balanced, which meets students’ needs with regards to preparing them for their next stage in employment or education. The academy’s programme of extra-curricular activities is good and it makes a positive contribution to students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Students can take advantage of opportunities as diverse as trampolining, ukulele playing, religious discussion and science experimentation.”
