About The Canterbury Academy

The Canterbury Academy

As a result of our imaginative partnership with Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, The Canterbury Academy can offer the children and community of Canterbury and East Kent a genuine comprehensive option. The Canterbury Academy is a ‘school for all the talents’ which strives for excellence in 4 areas: academic study, practical learning, performing arts and sport. The students at The Canterbury Academy benefit from the impressive resources and facilities at The Canterbury Campus creating ‘a wealth of opportunity’ and enable us to provide ‘as much as possible, as often as possible, for as many as possible’.

Please have a look at our website. If you would like to contact us please do so. If you would like to arrange a visit, you will be most welcome to come and have a look around.

Middle School

The Middle School, for students in years 7, 8 and 9, supports the transition from Primary to Secondary education by providing dedicated staffing, areas for our new Year 7 students and support and guidance. It also prepares them for examinations and qualifications in the Senior School.

Senior School

The Senior School at The Canterbury Academy provides for students in Years 10 and 11. It supports the transition from the Middle School and continues to prepare students for GCSE examinations and progression into our Sixth Form and Further Education

The Canterbury Primary School

We are a popular, happy and friendly school which is set in spacious grounds within The Canterbury Academy Trust campus. We are close to the city but have unrivalled facilities in our state-of-the-art school, which was opened in September 2015.

We believe that every child walks with genius and is good at something. We strive in improving their life chances and helping within the community.

Our aim is to provide as much as possible, as often as possible, for as many as possible so that our children leave as confident individuals, proud of what they have achieved and are ready for their next stage of learning.

At our school, the children really do come first. Children and staff alike are encouraged to achieve their person best within a friendly, caring and nurturing environment.

Visitors are welcome to come and meet the staff and see in person the facilities available.

The Canterbury Academy Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at The Canterbury Academy has over 600 students and is one of the largest in the county. Year 12 students transition from year 11 at The Canterbury Academy and from a wide selection of schools around Kent. Students here will benefit from specialist teachers, a dedicated team of Sixth Form staff and specialist facilities for Sixth Form students.

Students belong to one of our four colleges; Academic, Vocational, Sport of Performing Arts and can study a wide range of courses in combination, such as BTEC and A-Levels together. We are able to be flexible and create bespoke timetables for our students, which allows students a lot more choice and variety in their study. Students can also join one of our elite academies in either sport or performing arts.

Students at The Canterbury Academy benefit from a dedicated Sixth Form centre where they have a social space, an independent study computer room, a supported study computer room and university-style lecture theatre. Students also have use of other dedicated computer rooms in the main school, a careers library, a gym and a café.

University is an appropriate destination for some students and increasing numbers progress to university. A planned programme of information, advice and guidance is offered to all our students, including personal statement writing, UCAS support and information regarding university fees.

We place great emphasis on CPD. In fact, this is a great place to enhance your skills and broaden your experience. There is an excellent induction and in house development programme. Moreover, we are committed to a ‘greenhouse culture’; we seek to appoint people with potential and then develop them. All staff here are entitled to performance management linked to personalised development within our professional framework. A lot of our staff will be internally promoted after 2 or 3 years and many go on to senior promoted posts elsewhere. In recent years staff have gone on to assistant and deputy headships.
