About Tor Bridge Primary School
From the pupils, staff, families and Governors I extend a warm welcome to you from Tor Bridge Primary School (change of school name to Tor Bridge Primary School in September 2011.)
We all believe that we are a unique and committed school with an exciting and unlimited future.
We are situated on a ridge overlooking the Forder Valley, with some magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, including the edge of Dartmoor. Our school grounds are spacious and pleasant and show a number of rural features. The school was opened in 1977 and currently has a roll of 160 children. Many entrants have previously attended the Plym Bridge Nursery School and Children’s Centre on the adjoining site and most will move to Tor Bridge High in Year 7.
The children at our school are our core purpose. We are committed to providing and promoting an environment which allows all children to develop and grow happily, in safety, with enjoyment, aspiration and success. With a good balance of a themed curriculum, varied learning and systematic teaching we always aim to establish a love of learning. Children mature greatly as they have travelled through the school, at each stage taking on new challenges and responsibilities. Their achievements are always many and varied, building on their creativity and curiosity. Further details on our visions and values, and how we achieve this can be found using the links on the home page.
There is an embedded whole school approach to meeting children’s needs and we have a strong history of very successful inclusive practice. We ensure all pupils are included in the life of the school whatever their age, ability, disability or ethnic background. This resulted in us becoming the first school to be awarded the Plymouth Inclusion Kitemark in July 2003 and we have subsequently achieved the Inclusion Quality mark in 2009.
We are committed to ensuring the school continues to strive for excellence, for the best of the pupils and for that ultimate enjoyment and satisfaction gained from learning. Our school community works hard to ensure we are a happy, productive and successful team. The school benefits from an experienced, committed staff, teaching and non-teaching and a very supportive governing body. There are currently 8 classes with a one-form entry joining the Foundation Stage in September. We are very proud to be the home of the city’s K.S.1 enhanced specialist provision that provides inclusive and specialist teaching for pupils with speech, language and communication needs. The school is resourced with two libraries, a separate music room and purpose built ICT suite.
The school has gained Investors in People and the Basic Skills Quality Mark. The Bristol Quality Mark for Early Years for the third time in 2007. We received the Eco Schools Silver Award, Healthy Schools Award and the School Travel Plan Award in July 2007.
There is an active Friends Association. Many parents and other volunteers work in school, leading and helping with a variety of activities. Assemblies, church services, performances, coffee mornings and progress meetings are well attended. We have specialist music teaching and very often benefit from sport coaching programmes.
The pride and commitment in our school is being strengthened by the Tor Bridge Parnership. With Plym Bridge Children’s Centre and Nursery, Cann Bridge School and Tor Bridge High we will be neighbours on a £40 million campus, with an enviable wealth of a shared vision alongside ultra-modern facilities and resources. In 2012 we will occupy our new building on the site. Further details of this can be seen in the information booklet and on our website.
