Based Near Lichfield, Staffordshire, Longdon Hall is currently judged as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted and won the TES Special Needs School of the Year Award in June 2014. Longdon Hall School is part of the Acorn Care and Education Group, the second largest private sector provider of special needs education in the country operating 19 schools for children and young people who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism

ASC Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • To support the development of ASC provision within Longdon Hall School.
  • To provide 1:1 support to a year 10 student with a diagnosis of ASC, with particular focus on improving engagement in lessons and minimising inappropriate language and behaviours.
  • To motivate the student to achieve his potential, through a positive and inspirational approach to learning.
  • To work with parents and the young people with ASC to ensure effective and successful inclusion of pupils within Longdon Hall School.
  • To support the development of learning styles and appropriate support approaches, behaviour management, classroom strategies, resources and whole school policies for children with complex needs and diagnoses within LHS.
  • To initiate and model autism specific support strategies for Teaching Assistants in conjunction with Longdon Hall School’s therapy team, relating to individual pupils within the classroom and whole school.
  • To enable access to learning and social opportunities for pupils with ASC, through the delivery of support to families and the young person.
  • To work with Key partners in Longdon Hall School’s therapy service (Speech and Language Service, Psychotherapy and Educational Psychology) in order to deliver and implement a multi-disciplinary approach to support individualised packages for young people with ASC.
  • To keep up-to-date with current research and good practise on ASC, ensuring LHS are working towards national autism standards.
  • To support the SLT and therapy team in the continued development of supporting young people with complex diagnoses, such as ASC / Attachment Disorder, within an ESBD environment.
