Job overview

Our school-based Primary Teaching Assistant placements cover Early Years to Key Stage 2, offering up a constructive, practical first step into the world of education.

Your Opportunity:

Learn to teach with the support of expert classroom practitioners in one of our Harris Academies across Greater London, developing the leadership skills and subject knowledge you need to succeed in the world of teaching.

Class immersion is at the centre of our programme, giving you the ability to start making an impact from your first lesson in.

We believe that in order to shape great teachers and exceptional learning environments, it is important that you experience this first-hand. Your role will be to provide support, either as 1:1 tuition, or to small groups of students with varying abilities in Early Years, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. You will be encouraging and supporting individual pupils to reach their full potential, whilst demonstrating a creative and determined attitude that will help motivate students. You will be directly supporting the students with their learning, as well as helping to organise the teaching and learning resources available to students and staff.

The Programme:

Our objective with this programme is to equip you with invaluable classroom experience to help shape the future trailblazer in you. In providing you with a hands-on learning environment, you can expect responsibility in your role you may not be exposed to elsewhere. Here, you will be able to learn, grow and make a lasting difference ahead of initial teacher education training.

Prospects with Harris:

With the foundations set, many of our graduate Teaching Assistants may go on to complete their Initial Teacher Education (ITE) through the Harris School Direct programme. The programme has been designed to provide aspiring teachers with the support and training needed to be the best they can be in and outside the classroom. We recruit on a rolling basis, so you can apply when you are ready to secure your place on the next leg of your teaching journey. If you are considering embarking on a teach training programme, visit our Initial Teacher Education website for more information.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for driven, dedicated leaders who share our belief that every child has the potential to do well. Our exceptional teachers, staff and leaders come from a wide range of backgrounds, but they all share synonymous passion towards giving our students an outstanding education in a safe, inspiring and dynamic school environment.

Benefits:

As part of the Harris Federation, we can offer you a range of benefits, including:

  • Access to a diverse network of phase and subject specialist groups
  • Support and mentoring from some of the best leaders in education
  • An Inner or Outer London Harris Allowance, plus a performance and loyalty bonus
  • Pension scheme (TPS) and access to our Harris Wellbeing Cash Plan, covering a range of health and wellbeing benefits
  • The opportunity to work with our amazing students!

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.
