Job overview

Due to promotion of the current postholder we are seeking to appoint an ambitious and innovative teacher of Science with responsibility as Second in Science. You will be a key player in the highly ambitious Science Faculty and will work with a committed team of professionals who are determined to develop the teaching of Science for all abilities up to GCSE level. Ideally we are looking for a Physical scientist, with recruitment and retention allowance available for a suitable person.

We are looking for a creative thinker who is an energetic and a dedicated teacher, who will engage, enthuse and challenge students to achieve their very best in Science. You must possess the skills and determination to bring out the best from students by making a significant contribution to our school community.

You will have excellent subject knowledge and be well informed on current educational developments and initiatives. You will work within a well-resourced curriculum area that has significantly improved GCSE results over recent years. Attainment has been in line with national averages with progress well above the national average. This year has seen a dip in Separate Science outcomes. We are keen to address this quickly. The Science team has worked hard to develop opportunities to enrich learning outside the classroom and a commitment to this aspect would be welcome. Partnerships with the Ogden Trust and UCLAN are well established.

The team are well led and are keen to make further progress. The diverse curriculum offered at Witton Park supports a high up take for EBacc subjects and option subjects. Outcomes for pupils in 2016 were judged to be good by Ofsted. We are now likely to be judged outstanding for progress with a progress 8 score of +0.24 in 2016 and a further significant increase to +0.45 in 2017. The Ofsted report and website will give you a flavour for other aspects of the school.

Welcome to Witton Park Academy

Innovating… Engaging… Caring… Learning… Succeeding Together.
With pride and passion we unite our school and our local community, and lead the drive to be ‘always learning’.

We are extremely proud of our school; the achievements of our pupils, the expertise and dedication of our staff, our outstanding facilities and our reputation as a centre of excellence.

Our ultra-modern school buildings allow our pupils to flourish in facilities for learning that truly do enable us to trail blaze innovative learning – from the bright and attractive classrooms, to the fully equipped outside play areas, the facilities allow our pupils to fully explore their talents and to shine in those areas that they most enjoy.

A building, however, is only as good as the people working within; we believe we have some of the best students and teachers in the world.  Staff and pupils benefit from the investment we place on their development: as well as playing a key part in supporting other schools through the Achievement through Collaboration Trust, we have a variety of external partners from Google, The Schools, Students and Teacher Network and with University College London. Partnerships like these create opportunities for all members of our team.

We understand how important choosing the right school is and so, on behalf of our pupils and staff, we warmly invite you to visit our school and experience for yourself the quality of education we offer.

Andy Burton
Headteacher
