Activities Leader

Padworth College requires all sorts of individuals from Book Worms to Lifeguards, Dramatists to Tech Geeks to join its Academic Summer School as Activities Leaders.  The Academic Summer School will offer British Council accredited English language and academic courses during the months of July and August for students aged 13 to 17 years, over 2, 4 and 6 weeks.  The College is situated on a 12 acre site, in a beautiful rural location, on the edge of the hamlet of Padworth, near the university town of Reading, with London close by.  Sports and leisure facilities on site include a Multi-Use Games Area (tennis, basketball and netball courts), a weight training room, outdoor sports pitches and an outdoor heated swimming pool.

Courses (including staff induction) will run as follows:

Thursday 27 June to Saturday 10 August 2019.

Contracts are available for 6 weeks.  Please note that the above dates include induction training days, which are paid contracted days.  Attendance is mandatory for all Academic Summer School staff.

The Activities Leader role is residential.  Full board accommodation and a laundry service are provided.

Activities Leaders will be integral to forming a happy and enthusiastic community at the Academic Summer School.  They will be supported by an experienced academic management team.  

We only employ boarding staff with a proficient level of English (both spoken and written) and previous experience of living or working in the UK.  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK as the College does not apply for work permits, visas or offer sponsorship to those applying from outside Europe.

All successful applicants will be asked to undergo Child Protection screening, which includes checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.  An overseas police check will be required for all applicants who have lived or worked overseas.  Padworth College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment 

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must be educated to at least GCSE Level, (including English and Maths) or equivalent.  Experience of working with young people in similar situations, for example language camps, the Scout movement, C.C.F. or  Y.H.A. may be advantageous.

Salary and Benefits

Basic salary for the course is from £450 to £500 per week, subject to experience.  A fixed End of Contract payment will be payable at the end of the contract (i.e., after 6 weeks).  

In addition to salary, the College provides accommodation (a single study bedroom, similar to those found in a university hall of residence), a laundry service and three meals a day.
