Art and Design Teacher

ISA international School in Guangzhou is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Art and Design Teacher starting from August 2019!

School Mission

The ‘ISA International School Science City Campus’ will enroll more than 1 800 students, and K-12 full process international education for students aged 2 to 18. It is scheduled to be operational in August 2020.

Location Overview

Long known as the “Flower City”, Guangzhou is the largest metropolis in South China, Affluent in historical and cultural heritage. It is close enough to Hong Kong for wonderful weekends away. Most of Guangzhou is a full-integrated and modern city that you will find anything and everything you need.

Primary Arts (PYP)

ISA offers weekly, one-hour specialist Art classes for PYP students. In the Visual Arts, students explore two and three-dimensional forms within a variety of medias such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Photography. They learn both technical and material practice in conjunction with the study of Artists and Artworks.

Students keep a Visual Arts Process Journal in which they experiment and develop their understanding of the elements of art – Line, Form, Tone, Colour, Texture and Space. Subject matter is varied and ranges from Portraiture, The Natural Environment, Man made Environments, Personal Identity, Living things,Appropriation of Artists, Artworks and Movements in the Art World. Students work on artworks which are individual and collaborative projects.

Middle Year Arts (MYP)

ISA offers weekly two hours’specialist Art classes and design classes respectively from Years 6 – 9.

In the Visual Arts students are taught both two dimensional and three dimensional forms within a variety of mediums such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture. They learn both technical and material practice in conjunction with the study of Artists and Artworks.

In Design, the areas of study are the Built Environments, Products and Information and Communications. These provide the situation or context for the design projects such as from Graphic Design, Interior Design, Textiles and Architecture. For each Design project,students develop a design folio as a document that provides ongoing evidence of the application of a design process and the specific technologies used in this process.

Special Qualifications/Skills Experience & Education

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Art and/or Design
• Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent of a PGCE)
• Native level English speaker
• IB, UK curriculum, IGCSE, overseas and international exposure
• Min. 2 years of teaching experience, ideally with experience of the IB Curriculum
• Proven track record of outstanding teaching in the early years
• Recent experience of working with students from a variety of cultures
• Recent participation in continuing professional development
•  Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written
