Bishopsgate School is looking to appoint an Assistant Bursar (Financial) to be responsible, under the supervision of the Bursar, for all day-to-day accounting matters, including the production of accounts in statutory format. This may be a part-time role. Specific job tasks include liaising with the school’s payroll management and pension providers, maintaining the purchase ledger, managing fee invoicing and payments and maintaining the nominal ledger including monthly trial balances and management accounts. It is essential that applicants have significant accountancy experience and a recognised accountancy qualification (AAT/ACA) and have experience of preparing for and liaising with auditors at end of year.
Previous experience of working in a school environment is helpful but not essential. However, a strong commitment to education and to independent education is essential. The Assistant Bursar must be comfortable with championing the philosophy of independent co-education, with an interest in the wider changing educational environment. The Assistant Bursar will also enjoy being part of, and contributing to, a diverse community of pupils, teachers, non-academic staff and parents. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a natural enthusiasm and flexibility to engage across a broad variety of activities and be a self-starter with a high level of time management and planning skills.
Bishopsgate is a school in which children can really enjoy their childhoods. Our priorities are the encouragement of a lifelong love of learning and the nurturing of well-rounded, respectful and kind children. We believe that happy children learn best, so laughter and fun are very important ingredients of the Bishopsgate experience and we take great care to ensure that our pastoral care, as well as academic learning, is of the highest standard. Bishopsgate is full with waiting lists in most years so the Assistant Bursar will be stepping into a thriving organisation.
We highly value our reputation as an excellent employer, and the successful candidate will benefit from a Contributory Pension Scheme, free and delicious lunch and snacks during term time, free staff parking, Cycle to Work scheme, all the benefits of our 'Bishopsgate Elevate' wellbeing programme, use of the beautiful swimming pool and new sports complex, and the opportunity to grow and develop professional skills and qualifications.
This is a term-time role for approximately 36 weeks of the year within the normal School working day of 08:00 – 17:30, precise hours open to negotiation, plus an additional 15 days to be worked during school holidays. The salary for this role is around £30,000 dependent on the experience of the successful candidate.
Applications should be received by 23:59 on 26th Sept. The School reserves the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so applicants are encouraged to apply immediately as this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. Please use the non-teaching application form below, either online or using the Word download.
