The Exciting Role
We are looking for someone who loves working with data and likes everything to be correct! A new and exciting opportunity has become available for an Assistant Data Analyst to join our dedicated team on a full-time permanent basis, working 37 hours per week. The ILR Data team uses the student and course information collected on the College’s student records system to produce a monthly computerised return for the Education and Skills Funding Agency, the government department which funds FE colleges. This role is all about producing meaningful information from the raw data, in order to improve data quality and performance.

This role will be based at our Accrington and Rossendale College site, however, travel across sites may occasionally be required and there is also the opportunity to work remotely at certain times. You will be working as part of a small but close-knit team who pride themselves on doing an excellent job and are extremely supportive and friendly.

.What You Will Be Doing

1. Using various software packages, you will process information from the student records database and produce analysis and exception reports

2. Carry out regular checks on the data to make sure the College is drawing all the funding to which it is entitled

3. Attend regular meetings with curriculum areas to resolve any issues

4. Make sure data complies with funding and audit guidance and advise where issues arise

5. Produce reports on a monthly basis for the management team, as well as uploading data to various external organisations for benchmarking analysis

6. Support the college business planning cycle by providing reference data and reports, and process information to form the basis of future plans

7. Support other college processes with a data analysis element, such as performance monitoring and annual timetable planning


What We Are Looking For:

• Level 4 qualification or higher, preferably in an IT-related discipline

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or higher

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

• Experience of producing reports and data analysis on a regular basis

• A passion for accuracy and an eye for detail

• Experience of using the EBS student records system (desirable)

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
