Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, organised second in department for science. The ability to teach GCSE and A Level Physics would be an advantage; however, all good and outstanding applicants will be carefully considered. You will be joining and leading an excellent and well-established subject team who both support and learn from each other.

In 2018 our overall Attainment 8 score for science was 5.1 and Progress 8 for science was -0.01. Students studying Science took either Double or the Separate Science courses. The department achieved 70.7% Grade 9-4 in Combined Science and 100% Grade 9-4 in the three, separate sciences. Uptake to KS5 courses in Science has risen steadily in the last few years.

Idsall School is a heavily oversubscribed 11-18 rural school, which provides our community with good to outstanding development, learning and progress in a positive, pleasant learning environment. Idsall was described by OFSTED (June 2017) as a good and improving school where students achieve well and leave the school with results that are above the national average. All judgements were good.

The Science department is a committed, close-knit team who work well together to enable students of all abilities to fulfil their potential. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Science across the whole ability range in KS3, KS4 and KS5 including managing and leading the department as a Second in Science.

Idsall School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary with sixth form in Shifnal, Shropshire. The school has been an academy since 2014, and has on average 1330 students on the school register with 200 in sixth form. The historic market town of Shifnal is a few minutes from Junction 4 of the M54 motorway. The school is within 5 minutes walking distance of the town centre railway station which has excellent transport links from Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Birmingham. The school is located a short distance from Shifnal Primary School. The school motto translates from Latin as ‘from little acorns large oaks grow’. Idsall School was once the nearest secondary comprehensive to Lillleshall FA Academy, and can claim the record for the school to have educated the most England internationals.
