Cottenham Village College has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Head of Year to join their team!
The role is crucial for the day-to-day life of Cottenham Village College. You will be providing support and guidance for our students within a key stage alongside supporting our Key Stage Progress Leader and relevant Heads of Year, with investigating incidents, collecting statements, exclusion paperwork, liaising with parents, parent meetings and much more to ensure the students are supported and following the college’s behaviour and expectations.
As our Assistant Head of Year, you will be:
- Managing the day-to-day incidences of behaviour in line with our behaviour policy
- Providing support to students via praise, emotional support and building trusting and supportive relationships
- Monitoring students on specific pastoral reports to ensure improvements
- Attending and arrange parent meetings
- Providing quality administrative support, including exclusion documents and letters to parents
We are looking for individuals who have:
- Good interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to relate well to people on all levels with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy
- High level of interpersonal skills
- An appreciation of distinctive characteristics of urban and multi-faith communities

About Cottenham Village College
Cottenham Village College, part of the Astrea Academy Trust, a highly successful 11-16 mixed academy situated close to the beautiful city of Cambridge; here you will find hard-working, well-behaved students and dedicated staff who are committed to a fully inclusive, comprehensive education. There are around 880 students on roll and CVC shares the site with a special school, The Centre School, which is also administered by the Astrea Academy Trust.

A school at the heart of a small community, Cottenham Village College works hard to engage with local families. The secondary school has a strong academic focus, with a diverse and engaging curriculum on offer and a wide range of subjects both at Key Stage 4.
In order to get the best out of students, teachers set rigorous standards in terms of behaviour and attendance. Students are encouraged to developed respect for themselves, their peers and staff members.

“The curriculum provides a suitably broad and balanced range of opportunities for pupils. The long-established strength in what is provided in history, geography and other humanities subjects ensures that pupils have additional opportunities to practise their writing skills in a variety of stimulating contexts.
“Pupils enjoy coming to school. Teaching staff have high expectations for what pupils can achieve. Staff provide challenging activities in most subjects. Pupils are well behaved in lessons and work hard; they say they enjoy their learning.”
