Job overview

Gordonstoun has been leading the way in character education for more than 80 years. Our uniquely broad curriculum provides challenge in the classroom, at sea and in the mountains, on the stage and on the sports fields and enables students to discover the truth in our motto – Plus Est En Vous – there is more in you. The key focus of this role is to lead on student wellbeing across the school, to ensure that every child thrives and is prepared for life beyond Gordonstoun.

Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 6-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries.

To continue with the development of our pastoral provision, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Head Wellbeing for Autumn 2022.

The successful candidate will lead a team to support students around GIRFEC and to build their happiness, confidence and resilience for a full and active role as international citizens in a changing world.

The suitable candidate will be placed on an appropriately senior point on our attractive salary scale and there are an extensive range of benefits including free meals and a generous discount for staff children. As this role is residential, accommodation will be provided.

Gordonstoun would welcome applications for the position of Assistant Head: Wellbeing. This role is dedicated to supporting pupils during their senior school years by facilitating their all-around wellbeing and leading on the highest standard in pastoral care. Alongside ensuring outstanding safeguarding and child protection practice, the Assistant Head: Wellbeing will lead a team to support students around GIRFEC and to build their happiness, confidence and resilience for a full and active role as international citizens in a changing world. We would be interested in applications from experienced leaders who are looking for a new challenge (particularly those who have demonstrated success in this sphere) as well as those who would be new to leadership but can demonstrate a passion for student wellbeing, safeguarding and pastoral care.

The creative life of the School is vibrant and well developed, with Drama, Art, Music and Technology central to the life and ethos of Gordonstoun. There are opportunities for staff to contribute both in the role of expert or as an enthusiastic amateur.
Staff are deeply committed and, during term, work throughout the week, including weekends. The variety and range of our activities, coupled with a real commitment to work, indicate the School's aim to educate the whole person.
