Job overview

Lister Community School is a large 11-16 Academy at the heart of its community and part of the Newham Community School Trust. Our vision is to provide a world class international education for young people in Newham.  We believe our young people have the right to the same quality of teaching and range of opportunities as at any school in the country, and our ethos is one of continuous improvement, with a focus on strong partnerships and staff development. Over the last ten years we have significantly raised academic standards and are now the school of choice for our local community.

Lister is an academy, and, together with three other successful secondary schools in Newham, has been collaborating for some years as part of the Newham Community Schools Trust. The four secondary schools are thriving, with very positive outcomes, which makes us one of the highest performing Multi Academy Trusts in the country. Through this partnership, staff have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with colleagues from other schools. The school has a well developed pastoral system ensuring that all young people are known and supported as individuals, while also having high expectations of behaviour, and a commitment to providing a safe and orderly environment so that everyone can achieve their best.

This opportunity to join the Leadership Team will provide the chance to join a group of committed and collegiate professionals. You will need to share our dedication to ensuring that all our young people have the opportunity to succeed. You will also need to be a highly skilled classroom practitioner, as all members of the Leadership Team are expected to model good practice and to contribute to our continuing work to develop learning.

The exact nature of the role and the main areas of responsibility will be discussed with the successful candidate. They will depend on their experience, passion, and skill set, as well as the requirements of the Leadership Team. Responsibilities, which will be shared with other members of the Leadership Team, will include promoting high standards in  both academic and pastoral areas and contributing to the overall development of the school

If you think you have the potential to contribute to this team, then an application form can be downloaded directly from our school’s website at:  http://www.lister.newham.sch.uk/vacancies/

We would also be delighted to welcome you for a tour and an informal conversation with the Head Teacher on Friday 28th January 2022 from 9:00 until 10:30. If you would like to attend this, or have any further questions, please contact Cecilia Richard  (Deputy School Business Manager) on 020 8471 3311 or at cecilia.richard@lister.newham.sch.uk

Applications must be submitted by:  9am on Tuesday 1st February 2022.

Interviews:   Thursday 3rd February 2022.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.

Lister Community School recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds. Across our two primary and four secondary schools, all located in the west of the borough, we educate over 5,400 local children and young people, and employ a team of  close to 700 members of staff, the vast majority of whom live locally.
