Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral)

Coleridge Community CollegeCambridgeshire

Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral)

The role

Do you want to be part of a team on an exciting journey, where you will help make a lasting impact on our students, so they can make a success of their lives?  It is an exciting time to join our school and play a role in the transformational journey we are on.

We seek a leader who sets, maintains and role models’ high standards and high expectations to join our Senior Leadership Team.  A leader who will be ambitious for our students, for our staff and for our school.    You will play a central role in delivering our behaviour curriculum and supporting the safeguarding, welfare, attendance and inclusion of our students.  The Assistant Headteacher will lead, motivate and inspire students, staff, parents and the wider community, to ensure every student achieves ambitiously well.

Our school is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.  Our mission is to bring out ‘the best in everyone’.

We believe in creating a common language and public routines that will create the building block for creating effective behaviour.  Our approach is informed by Lemov’s ‘Teach like a Champion’ and Tom Bennett.

We have introduced a common language around ‘warm/strict’, ‘SLANT’, ‘Be seen looking’ and Roll call.  We train on this together as we are a team and seek to achieve consistency.  We have a programme of Deliberate Practice so that we can regularly review and rehearse these routines.

We are looking for a leader who will be highly visible in classrooms, in corridors and in breaks to support staff and be relentless in our desire to create excellent behaviour across the school.  We strive to establish classrooms which are disruption free so that staff can focus on teaching and students are able to learn.  We want a Senior Leader who will be able to build on the work already introduced, is passionate about the approach we are taking and will also bring new ideas and able to strategically lead on the delivery of these (e.g. Family lunch).

We are unapologetically ambitious for every child, no matter what their background, prior attainment or needs.  We also believe in ‘Education with Character’ – we want young people to look back on a schooling that has inspired and challenged them, given them wide opportunity and prepared them for the ups and downs of life. We believe that our school will provide an excellent education for all students.

We are looking for people that share this belief and passionately believe in doing what it takes to ensure that all children can achieve.

We have ambitious plans for the future of Coleridge Community College and creating an academic ethos is at the centre of this.

We believe that our children deserve only the best quality staff and so we recruit carefully and invest in training to ensure continuous improvement and an excellent quality of education.

The precise responsibilities of this role will be decided and negotiated with the successful candidate.

About Us

Coleridge Community College is a small, family and community orientated school in Cambridge.  It’s a school where every child and staff member is known, developed and supported.  We value our staff highly and treat workload seriously.

This is an exciting time to join us:  We have recently joined United Learning; we have a new Headteacher; and, having just achieved a ‘Good’ at Ofsted, we have really strong foundations on which to grow into an excellent school.  We are looking for someone that shares this belief and passionately believes that all children can achieve, no matter what their starting point, background or needs.

We are looking for the right people to join our team.  The post holder will be required to work in partnership with the Headteacher to bring about continuous improvement of the school in order to ensure high standards of academic achievement for pupils, high quality teaching and learning experiences for pupils and high standards of behaviour in lessons and around the school.

You will be joining a school that is ambitious for its future as well as the future of all its students and so are looking for colleagues who share that ambition and are uncompromising in their commitment to doing what it takes to secure the potential of the young people here.
