Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic Assistant Headteacher to lead on personal development, behaviour and attitudes across Key Stages 3 and 4. This post represents an exciting opportunity for either a current middle leader or an existing Assistant Headteacher with the vision and leadership capacity to take us to the next stage of our journey towards a world-class education for all of our students.

You will join us at a truly exciting stage in the school’s development: we have recently moved into a new school building, established a multi-academy trust and developed an innovative approach to curriculum design and development.

A recent OFSTED inspection praised the quality of leadership and noted that the strongest impact of our work has been in embedding the right culture for learning. The successful candidate will build on this success by promoting outstanding behaviour for learning and maximising the impact of our curriculum intent on all students. He/she will be able to make an impact from the outset, demonstrating a repertoire of strategies to foster behaviour and attitudes that maximise learning and enable students to become a force for good in society.

The successful candidate will be resilient, creative and have a proactive attitude with a relentless focus on the highest of standards in all aspects of school life. The specific role and responsibilities will depend on the experience and aspirations of the individual appointed, coupled with the needs of the Academy.

Candidates should apply in writing, stating in no more than 2 sides of A4 how their experience to date has prepared them for this role.

Further information and an application pack is available from the school’s website:  www.chestnutgrove.wandsworth.sch.uk, or by contacting Ms Payen on 0208 673 8737

About Chestnut Grove Academy

Chestnut Grove is a high performing, 11-18, multi-cultural school in Balham, South London, with a number of awards for its inclusive approach including UNICEF Gold Status (2022).

Creativity underpins the vision and ethos of Chestnut Grove Academy and it is enshrined in our motto ‘A Creative Learning Community’. Underpinning our motto is our mantra ‘PROUD’ which reflects our values of Positive, Resilience, Open-minded, Unified and Determined.

Academic excellence is the foundation of a Chestnut Grove education. We achieve some outstanding examination results, with students making excellent progress at both GCSE and A Level. This has enabled a record number of our students to gain entry into the University of their choice, with many heading off to Russell Group universities including Oxbridge.

When students join Chestnut Grove they become part of a vibrant and cohesive community where the child’s social development is valued just as much as his or her academic development.

Chestnut Grove has  undergone a multi-million pound building programme which has provided staff and students with modern buildings and facilities.

We are proud to be a part of the Wandle Learning Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust that builds on the success of the Wandle Learning Partnership, of which we are the lead strategic partner with Chesterton Primary School.
