Job overview

The Governing Body of The Highcrest Academy is seeking to appoint an inspirational, visionary and highly motivated leader to help take Buckinghamshire’s first all ability, banded academy on to the next phase of our journey to excellence. We converted to an Academy in 2011 and took our first ‘all ability’ intake in 2012 within a selective county. Our new Senior Leader will have the support of a strong, stable and dynamic leadership and staff team to assist them in inspiring and empowering our students to believe in themselves, to ‘aspire and achieve’ and to make outstanding progress.

Just 30 minutes by train from Central London, our academy is truly multicultural and inclusive, having been awarded the Equalities Award in 2015; reaccredited for the IQM Flagship Award in 2017 and 2018; and receiving the Basic Skills Quality Mark for the fourteenth year running. We are heavily oversubscribed in the main school and are developing a strong Sixth Form, with our students truly believing in their school. Indeed, our KS5 results were the best in the whole of Buckinghamshire in 2017. There are ongoing plans to expand the academy across all year groups with new building work, comprising a brand new Sixth Form Centre, sports facilities including a gym and a new restaurant for both students and staff.

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate leader who will:

  • Contribute to the vision and strategic direction of the academy to ensure whole school improvement;
  • Inspire our community of young people to achieve beyond their expectations, whatever their ability, to become active participants in society and responsible citizens with a strong moral purpose;
  • Take a strategic lead in maintaining and developing our high standards of teaching and learning. Be proactive in closely monitoring and evaluating teachers’ performance and utilise all relevant observation data to implement prompt and personalised support to ensure improvement;
  • Take a strategic lead of our whole school Continuous Professional Development and staff INSET programme; ensuring that it is tailored to target and support staff’s individual areas for improvement.

The Governors will provide a support package for the person appointed to ensure their development and career aspirations are met.

Governors welcome visits from prospective candidates by prior appointment on 26 – 27 March or 16 – 19 April 2018. To arrange a visit, please contact the Principal’s PA on 01494 529866.

Please visit www.highcrestacademy.org.uk for further information about this role.

The online TES application must be accompanied by a letter of introduction (no longer than two sides of A4), outlining how your experiences, skills and knowledge make you a suitable candidate for the position. These can be posted to the school office FAO The Principal’s PA or emailed to office@highcrestacademy.org.uk

Closing date: 10.00am on Friday 20 April 2018

Interview process: Thursday 26 and Friday 27 April 2018

The Highcrest Academy is a vibrant, happy school in which every student is given the opportunity to develop their talents and to flourish as individuals. We are relentless in our pursuit of building a cohesive culture and curriculum that matches the varied needs of our students.

Our motto, ‘Aspire and Achieve’ is central to our philosophy. We are committed to making sure that every student makes outstanding progress and succeeds both academically and in terms of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Indeed, we value a strong work ethic and aim to develop, sometimes hidden or unsuspected talent, into fruition.

At Highcrest, we are committed to setting high expectations for the conduct of our pupils and believe it is crucial for there to be an established culture in which all are able to excel. We want all the children who come to the academy to enjoy their learning and to become thoughtful, articulate, confident and responsible members of society.

Our personalised curriculum is enhanced by numerous extra-curricular opportunities, community and business projects, national and international competitions and a thriving House System. This encourages staff and students of all ages to work together.

The Highcrest Academy is the only all-ability academy in Buckinghamshire and is a culturally diverse, over-subscribed school, making it a fantastic place to teach. There are approximately 1000 students on roll, including Sixth Form. We know from pupil surveys that students are proud of our school and, when parents have been surveyed, the level of parent satisfaction has also been exceptionally high.

We are very aware that The Highcrest Academy is part of a community and we work hard to instil a sense of local and global responsibility. This means that students take part in many activities which enhance the local community, and have a real understanding of their role in improving the work community.

Our mission is to create a positive, secure and happy learning environment where all students experience success, friendship, respect and self-worth; where students value and celebrate the diverse talents and cultural heritage of all, and achieve their full potential in becoming responsible citizens, respecting the rights of other and contributing to our society.
