Job overview

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Maths or Science specialist and highly experienced Middle Leader/Assistant Principal to join our existing senior team and help drive further improvements at Avonbourne Boys’ Academy and Avonbourne Girls’ Academy. Precise whole academy responsibilities would be negotiated with the successful candidate. Future expansion of the academies will offer excellent future career progression opportunities.

It is a very exciting time to join Avonbourne Academies and play a role in the transformational journey we are currently undergoing.

The academies also benefit from working closely with Carter, Glenmoor and Winton Academies, as part of the United Learning Bournemouth and Poole cluster, which also helps provide excellent career progression opportunities.

About You

We are seeking to appoint a highly experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Principal. You must be an outstanding practitioner who is rigorous and robust with the ability to empower and challenge others. You will also be committed to securing high standards of learning and teaching in order to raise academic achievement. You will be a role model to staff, who will look to you for outstanding line management, support and challenge.

United Learning

Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

About Avonbourne Boys' Academy

Avonbourne Boys' and Girls' Academies benefit from working closely with Carter, Glenmoor, Winton and United Sixth Form Academies, as part of the United Learning Bournemouth and Poole cluster. We work as a team and achieve more, by sharing, than any single school could.

We are a group of schools based in East Bournemouth catering for students age 4-18 across our four schools. Avonwood Primary School is a standalone primary facility based next door to our Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies where students share a campus and are taught in predominantly single sex classes. When students reach our United Sixth Form, mixed classes are reinstated. We believe this diamond model of education recognises that as boys and girls reach their teenage years, they approach their learning differently allowing us to get the most out of every student.

The Academies advocate a coaching culture, where teachers develop as reflective practitioners, utilising shared best practice and evidence based teaching and learning initiatives.  In-house CPD is extensive and high quality, with professional learning communities utilising local university support, to carry out action research in cross-faculty groups.

Pastoral care is superb, with a highly trained team that are morally driven and extremely effective.  We encourage students to develop their skills through the provision of educational opportunities which enable young minds to play a part in creating a future which has opportunities for all and encourages aspiration and determination.

The Academies are undergoing a transformational journey and are part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life-changing education across England. As a group we achieve more by sharing than any single school could.

Avonbourne Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, governors and volunteers to share the same commitment. Please note Avonbourne Academy does not accept CV's in place of application forms.

Please note that you are wholly responsible for fact checking in respect of the information provided by schools. Please also check for the latest visa and work permit requirements that may apply.
