Job overview

We are looking for an Assistant SENDCo to join our growing and newly appointed support team.  The post provides a great opportunity for someone that is keen to add their own talents into a passionate and highly motivated team. The successful candidate will work closely with an Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for SEND and a very experienced Lead SEND Administrator.

The role will involve a Teaching timetable commitment and an overall accountability to KS1 KS2 SEND students, and staff, with the addition of supporting the transition into Year 7, as well as overseeing pupil premium catch up for those students. Under the line management of the SENDCo the successful candidate will work collaboratively with primary leaders, leading on SEND provision within that setting.

Plymouth School of Creative Arts is a 3 -16 mainstream, city centre, all-through school sponsored by Plymouth College of Art. We opened our Primary phase in September 2013, and our Secondary phase in September 2014.
Our initial intake comprised 94 students (Reception and Year One). We now have over nine-hundred students in the school, from Preschool to Year 11.

Applicants should have a commitment to their own learning and be able to adapt to changing and individual needs. In return, we will provide the support, encouragement and CPD opportunities to help us all ensure the needs of our SEND students are met, providing them with the opportunity to make progress and succeed.

An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Values and vision

The school draws much of its ethos from its sponsor, Plymouth College of Art, and as such strives to provide a vibrant curriculum that encourages independence and creativity. Teachers encourage a hands-on approach to learning, with as much practical experience being offered to students as possible.

Plymouth School of Creative Arts seeks to treat each pupil as an individual, doing everything it can to tailor the curriculum to meet their particular needs and talents.

Ofsted report

“In line with the school’s vision, the pupils quickly learn to lead their own learning by working things out for themselves, under the guidance of the teacher. They are totally engaged in, and enjoy, the activities. This contributes to their good behaviour and growing confidence.”
