There is something about St John’s which engenders a deep sense of belonging and community and this is felt across pupils, staff, parents and friends. It is a school which values its rich heritage but is forward-looking and progressive.  St John’s has changed with the times and the needs of the families it educates but the core values of courtesy, respect and tolerance hold true.

St John’s is a co-educational school for over 800 boys and girls aged 11 to 18 and is predominantly a day school (75% day, 25% boarding) but with an innovative boarding offering which includes weekly, flexi or ad hoc options to create the best possible balance between home and school life for busy families. The School are currently looking for its 15th Head to continue the great success just achieved with its best ever A Level and GCSE results and excellent across all areas ISI inspection in  May  2022. Rebecca Evans has been Acting Head from September 2022.

The academic staff body is actively involved in developing creative and sophisticated teaching and learning practices through regular CPD, self-reflection and peer observations. Class sizes are small, staff support is first-rate and the high standards set in the classroom reflect in excellent public examination results. But exam results tell only part of the story and the truly rounded approach to education at St John’s aims to create open-minded, thoughtful, confident and happy young men and women who will go on to have productive, positive experiences in higher education and their adult lives.  The School’s support staff are integral to the wider success of St John’s. They are highly skilled professionals whose expertise allows the School to function effectively across functions as diverse as estates, operations, communications, catering, pastoral care, IT, finance and HR.

Set in the beautiful Surrey countryside, the School’s 50-acre campus is a short stroll into Leatherhead town centre and just 45 minutes by train to the cultural attractions of nearby London. It has excellent transport links by road, rail and nearby airports Heathrow and Gatwick. The impressive campus benefits from a stunning mix of mid Victorian architecture and purpose-built contemporary additions.

St John’s values its staff and believes that attracting and retaining the very best people is fundamental to allowing us to take St John's forward.  The School boasts a competitive salary structure and offers other benefits including a pension scheme, fee reduction for staff children, an employee support and benefits programme, a ride to work and childcare voucher scheme, free lunch during term time, opportunities for professional development and access to sports facilities.
