The Academy is based in Eccles, Manchester, just off Junction 11 of the M60 – Manchester’s ring road. It serves a predominantly white working class population and the proportion of students eligible for student premium funding is above national average. The proportion of students with special educational needs is in line with national average.

We are a rapidly improving Academy and we are part of the United Learning Multi-Academy trust. In August 2019, our students achieved the best ever GCSE results, attendance was above national standards, behaviour improved and we had introduced our ‘Aspire Curriculum’. Our staff are ambitious for all students, they work hard and strive to provide a wide range of extra-curricular and career opportunities for our students. The leadership team are supportive, dynamic and have led staff and students effectively to create a positive inspiring learning culture.

Within SCA, we embrace collaborative partnerships with all schools within United learning, and we are excited to be part of the ‘Salford Cluster’ which incorporates 3 other secondary Academies and 2 primary schools. The opportunities for professional development are vast and we actively encourage staff to become involved in a range of CPD programmes. If you are passionate about inspiring young adults, are hardworking, a team player, creative and resilient you will be an ideal candidate to join us on our continuing improvement journey.

In September 2015 the Academy was judged as a ‘Good’ school. Ofsted reported that:

  • Students’ behaviour and attitude to learning is good. The academy provides well-structured care and support and is exemplary in its approach to keeping students safe.
  • The Academy equips students to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in the Academy and wider society. Strong spiritual, moral and cultural development permeates through the Academy.
  • The Academy safeguarding procedures are exemplary.
  • The use of secure and shrewd student targets is distilled and displayed across the Academy.

In April 2017, Melanie Haselden was appointed as Principal and joined a team of ambitious senior leaders. A newly appointed Senior leadership team has an ambition is to secure the Academy as a centre of outstanding teaching and learning where staff and students are fully supported and developed to achieve the best they can. We want to appoint an Assistant Principal who has the vision, capabilities and confidence to realise this ambition and who is a confident team player with excellent communication and creative ideas.

United Learning

Salford City Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
