Job overview

Shape the future of Maths through your work in our Trust!

OGAT is a large and successful trust in the north of England that has grown over fourteen years to 29 secondary academies. Many of our academies lie in areas of high deprivation and these students, in particular, need your help. We know that the pandemic has had a massive impact on our students, especially the disadvantaged, and it continues to do so. We have our eye clearly on rebuilding the outlook and life chances of these young people. We are ambitious to think creatively and with great care about how we get there.

We are excited to offer this role and hope that you are the right person to join us on that journey.

The Associate Director of Maths will initially oversee the transformation of maths at one of our academies while also contributing to the success of the Trust as a whole. This will be an exciting and demanding role that would suit an experienced Head of Maths or Senior Leader who enjoys their subject specialism and can really see the impact maths can have on young people’s lives.

Our Executive Director is Kathryn Greenhalgh, who leads the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub, and has a national profile chairing the national Maths Hub council. Members of our Director team deliver on the NPQs. If you are excited to contribute to the professional development of other maths teachers and leaders both within and outside of the Trust, even nationally, there will be opportunities for this. We also have had Directors move onto school leadership as Principals and Vice Principals. So, wherever you want your career route to go, we can explore these opportunities with you and support you on that journey.

So, chances are you will be an experienced Head of Department, Senior Leader or Maths Hub associate; perhaps an experienced examiner, with knowledge and understanding of the Ofsted inspection process. You will certainly possess everything required to take a strategic lead on responding to academies’ needs, which could involve anything from coaching and mentoring, enhancing subject pedagogy and expertise, to directly running the department. Most importantly, you will be fostering a love of maths!

Needless to say, you will be an inspiring leader with real vision and passion – and the drive and determination to make things happen.

If you are already committed to working in a wider role, we would still welcome your application, as we will discuss a flexible approach for the right candidate. The position is available for September or sooner.

Please contact Kathryn Greenhalgh, Executive Director of Maths, on 07590 351752 for an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit to any of our academies.

We are an 11-16 academy based in the large, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

The academy received a good judgement in their 2017 Ofsted inspection. However in July 2022 the academy was given a notice to improve judgement. Leadership has significantly changed and a comprehensive improvement plan has been implemented to secure sustainable long term change for the academy. It is an exciting time to join the academy’s committed team and join them on this important improvement journey.

Taking a holistic approach to education, valuing vocational, practical, creative, and academic qualities equally, we believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally. We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
