Post Title: Asymptomatic COVID Test Site - Team Leader

Main Purpose of Role:
Asymptomatic testing is the testing of people with no symptoms of COVID-19, in order to identify anyone who may unknowingly be carrying the virus, so that they and their household can be instructed to self-isolate. The intention of asymptomatic testing is to reduce the transmission of the virus. It has been reported nationally that up to 1/3 of cases are asymptomatic. People with symptoms must stay at home and arrange a PCR test- this testing is not for them. Asymptomatic testing is carried out using Lateral Flow Devices (LFD) which are self-administered by test subjects, guided and supported by processing operatives. The LFD then takes 30 minutes to return a result.
The role of the Team Leader is a key post in Brentside High School’s delivery of COVID-19 asymptomatic testing. The Team Leader will essentially lead large-scale student testing, working with students, school staff and additional external staff. The post will operate over a fixed period of time which will be determined following the government’s decisions around the return to schools of all students after the current lockdown. The size of the team to be managed will be influenced by the government’s directives but is likely to involve 10 or more processing operatives (testers), in addition to test registration, result processing and result recording staff.
The school has become proficient in running small-scale testing for students and staff and members of the leadership team and other key student-support staff have been actively involved as testing operatives, meaning that the successful applicant will have a well-informed senior leader link who is able to trouble-shoot and problem solve alongside the post holder where appropriate. The Team Leader is responsible for the overall on-site operations of the test site, including delivery of testing services, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocol and day-to-day workforce management. The school will have arranged the logistics of the testing site and will support with the scheduling and management of students throughout testing.
The Team Leader (as well as all staff directly involved in testing) will undergo training on all aspects of testing and each of the roles involved. This training uses NHS materials as well as on site run throughs. All staff will wear designated PPE following NHS guidance strictly. This includes wearing a face mask and visor and so the Team Leader and all processing operatives must be able to wear face masks for prolonged periods of time.
This post will be fixed term. Applicants will need to be able to be flexible at this point as the length of the post will depend on the scheduling of mass testing, where all students must be tested twice on their return to school and staff should be tested twice weekly. We have approximately 1,600 students and over 160 staff.
All those students and staff who are tested will have given consent (parental consent for younger students). They are able to change their minds at any point in the testing process. During this period of partial lockdown, staff and student consent levels have been high and testing has run smoothly.

• Opens and closes site each day, including making the daily Go/No Go on testing operations
• Runs day-to-day operations including on-site workforce management, managing site health & safety and receiving and managing stock
• Point of escalation for any issues on site and escalates to local public health officials as appropriate

• Schedules and communicates schedules to Test Operatives Ensures all test site staff have arrived for shift and escalates no shows
• Cascades new information to all team members
• Ensures adherence to safe operating procedures and clinical guidance is maintained throughout operations
• Acts as a processing operative (tester) where appropriate
• Responsible for the quality and risk management of the testing and regularly checking that the site meets the standards required
• Undertakes necessary training before commencement of duties and keeps up to date with new training requirements that are advised from to time
Criteria for Selection –
Experience, Skills and Abilities:
• Experience overseeing an operational workforce and day-to-day people management
• Experience in managing compliance against regulatory guidelines preferred
• Experience managing operations in a customer-facing environment
• Candidates with management experience at events and or in leisure and hospitality settings would be highly suitable
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi-faceted teams in a fast-changing environment
• Strong, positive stakeholder management and communication skills
• Problem solving skills with strong ability to make quick decisions
• Ability to keep calm under pressure
An appropriate training package is in place for operators to be trained to be able to conduct the test in a safe and effective manner. Elements of this training will be assessed and no-one will be able to commence duties until assessed elements are undertaken and passed. This package includes the following:
• Using NHS videos which demonstrate how physical tests are conducted and each of the roles involved in the test site operation
• Reading materials outlining the infection prevention and control measures and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, including the proper procedure for donning and doffing PPE. Also an understanding of how to deal with any contamination or other untoward incidents
• Undertaking updated online training to ensure standards are adhered to and any new requirements are included
• Regular audit of performance
