Job overview

Wakefield College: an opportunity to join the Board of Governors

Would you like to make a difference and help Wakefield College to achieve its vision:

“to be an outstanding College at the heart of the Wakefield District”?

The opportunities have arisen as a number of our Governors have completed their terms of office and we are now looking for individuals with skills and experience to help us meet this challenge.  We would particularly welcome interest from those with backgrounds in Finance, Human Resources and/or Higher Education.

Being a Governor is a voluntary role which, while unpaid, is highly rewarding.  You will have the opportunity to give back to the local community, develop your own professional profile and networks and work alongside a very supportive team.

When new Governors are appointed, there is a programme of induction to support them in their new role and to help them get to know the College and the responsibilities that Governors have.  The programme is tailored to meet individual interests so that new Governors can quickly contribute their previous experience and skills to the advantage of the Governing Body.  There is also an ongoing development programme for Governors.

It is an exciting time to be involved with the College.  We have a challenging agenda and if you have the skills, ability and commitment to contribute, we would love to hear from you.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 30 June.  Interviews will be arranged with selected candidates

For further information, please visit: https://www.wakefield.ac.uk/about-us/corporate-information/governance or should you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact us via Sam Cremore, our Clerk and Legal Officer via the APPLY button

Thank you for your interest.

Andrew McConnell OBE, Chair of Governors

Why Work For Us

At the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, our colleagues and students are at the forefront of everything that we do.

We demonstrate drive, passion and determination to deliver an expansive, high-quality and responsive curriculum offer which is inclusive for all, ensuring that all learners can benefit from education, reach their potential and improve their life chances.

The Wakefield District
Wakefield offers a rare combination of heritage, countryside, entertainment, culture, shopping and sport. Whatever your interests, we hope you will want to explore the District and its many amenities.

For art lovers, there is the City Art Gallery and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, one of the world’s leading open-air galleries where a changing programme of international sculpture can be seen in the setting of a magnificent country park. Recent improvements to the Park include an underground gallery, visitor centre, shop and large restaurant - all the ingredients for a great day out. In 2011 the Hepworth gallery opened on Wakefield’s regenerated waterfront and presents a major collection of twentieth-century British artworks, with a collection of sculptures by locally-born Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore as its centrepiece.

Whatever your interests, we hope you will want to explore the District and its many amenities.
