Job overview

The successful candidate will be an important member of our Student Welfare Team, supporting the running of the Internal Exclusion room, whilst actively mentoring students who display challenging behaviours and supporting our longer-term Alternative Provision. They will be involved in the implementation of strategies to support young people whilst ensuring that students who are placed in isolation reflect on their actions and ways in which they can modify their behaviour in the future. The Behaviour Mentor and Internal Exclusion Officer will have experience of working with young people, have the ability to provide expert advice and guidance for all stakeholders and possess superb communication skills, especially when dealing with students, parents and a variety of agencies.

The role of Behaviour Mentor and Internal Exclusion Officer is a key position in a supportive, rich and diverse academy community offering the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to our pastoral system and make a significant difference to the lives of young people in North Manchester. If you have the passion, drive and skills to support all young people in achieving the best possible outcomes, we want to hear from you!

It is an especially exciting time to work for our academy. Recently, a multi-million pound extension was opened to welcome a growing number of students. This is testament to our reputation in the community and to the confidence that Manchester City Council has in our work. We are proud of our exam results, which show the excellent progress our students make during their time here. Our high standards can be seen in our attendance figures, which are the best in Manchester and in the top 1% nationally. We are delighted that at our recent Ofsted inspection in February 2018 the academy was again judged to be "Good" with many outstanding features, particularly the pastoral system.

“The Co-operative Academies Trust, as an aware employer is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults as its number one priority. Co-op Academy Manchester is a mixed, non-selective academy.

The academy, based in Higher Blackley in North Manchester, has over 1,600 students on roll and is part of Co-op Academies Trust.

Values and vision

All academies in our Trust are united by our Ways of Being Co-op.

These are:

  • Do what matters most
  • Be yourself, always
  • Show you care
  • Succeed together

Our shared academy vision is for excellence in everything.

Excellence is not an act but a habit. By its very nature, excellence is difficult to measure or quantify. Excellence is difficult to achieve and even harder to maintain.

It is often said that we are what we repeatedly do. Therefore by having habits of excellence we constantly challenge ourselves to be the best that we can be.

Our team

We are looking for colleagues who are up for a challenge; who want to make a real difference to the lives of the children they work with; who are committed to their own professional development and who want to be outstanding teachers, classroom assistants, administrators, leaders, and support workers across a wide range of roles in our academy.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work in a highly successful academy with a growing reputation as a high-performing educational setting.
  • Significant opportunities for professional development and growth within the academy and the Trust.
  • The opportunity to work under the ethics and values of the Co-op.
  • Co-op Academies Trust benefits package.
