The Role

We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic and approachable individual to join Robert Smyth as a Behaviour Mentor.

This is a new position and responsibilities will include supporting and mentoring groups of students, undertaking activities to meet their physical or emotional special needs as well as coaching and monitoring their progress.

As an experienced person in supporting young people, you will motivate and inspire students to engage in learning.

Some experience of having worked with students at this age range would be an advantage.

A grade C or equivalent in both English and maths and an understanding of the importance of ‘Child Protection and Safeguarding’ when working in a school environment are desirable.

The Academy

The Robert Smyth Academy developed from Market Harborough’s oldest school and was founded in 1607. It is now a vibrant, fast growing 11 – 19 Academy. The area around Market Harborough, which is an attractive and a growing market town, is increasing in its diversity and offering significant potential for the Academy to grow.

The OfSTED inspection in September 2017 deemed the Academy as ‘good’. This, together with other progress being made, is the foundation of the Academy’s journey to being ‘outstanding’. The Academy also enjoys a very positive reputation in its community and particularly for its considerable extra-curricular offer in many areas, most notably in art, music and sport.

If you join us, you will benefit from:

  • Working in a Trust with structured professional development opportunities
  • A real chance to develop in a forward thinking, highly successful academy
  • Developing yourself in our ‘can do’ culture and positive ‘want to’ climate

Staff Wellbeing

We actively place staff wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.  Our staff are our single biggest asset, and the success of our students depends on them.  So we take care of and invest in them properly.

A few of the things we offer are:

  • A supportive, open and approachable management team
  • Friendly colleagues who are always happy to help each other

We really value our staff and will do whatever we can to meaningfully demonstrate that

Staff Incentives

  • Free tea, coffee
  • Corporate gym membership
  • Weekly yoga class
  • Weekly running group
  • Employee Assist Programme
  • On-site parking for staff
  • The Academy participates in the childcare voucher scheme

Informal visits and conversations about the post are most welcome

Welcome to The Robert Smyth Academy; a highly successful school with a commitment to respect, success, and aspiration.

The Robert Smyth Academy provides a warm, welcoming setting where all children are well supported, and where their talents are nurtured through the exploration of a broad and rich curriculum. The Academy is highly oversubscribed and continues to be graded as ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted following a recent inspection report published in January 2023.

The Robert Smyth Academy is a proud comprehensive school which was founded in 1607 as the local grammar school in Market Harborough and which has its roots firmly grounded in a commitment to educational excellence. The school educates students with a wide range of aspirations, interests, and needs; everyone is welcome because our school is a family. The school offers outstanding pastoral support, excellent academic challenge and a wider curriculum that brings out the joy and confidence in all our young people.

The Robert Smyth Academy is located on an incredible estate set against the Hammond Arboretum and on the edge of Market Harborough. Students enjoy break and lunch times accompanied by the vista of large, luscious fields and they benefit from a fantastic catering service and dedicated restaurant and café facilities. Students enjoy relaxing and socialising in this wonderful space and this is highly conducive to their well-being.

Performance

Students who attend The Robert Smyth Academy regularly produce GCSE and A Level results that are well above national and local averages in both progress and attainment. This year, our students achieved GCSE results which placed our school within the Top 14% of all schools across the country and led to another year of students continuing with us to pursue A-Level studies. Many Sixth Form students progressed to Russell Group universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. These life changing outcomes show the impact of our commitment to academic challenge, pastoral care, and enrichment.

The school was inspected recently, and it was found to be ‘Good’ in all areas. The Ofsted inspection report is a glowing reflection of the school that we know.

Ultimately, the best thing about our school are the people who come here every day to make it such a special place to grow, develop and learn.
